This new ES looks pretty big in the spy shots. Why exactly is the ES so big anyway? To me it almost defeats the purpose of the GS and LS if they make it so large. The current ES350 looks almost as big as a regular LS460.
I bet 10 bucks, next 2 Gen ES will be as big as a tank. LOL

It would be a shame if the front overhang grew. That would not be progress.

A year or so ago C&D did a comparo with ES350, Genesis, LaCrosse and Taurus. They mentioned a couple of times that it was the smallest of the bunch. Maybe it's playing catch up. I hope not...

I'm confident Lexus knows this, as I've said most companies are smart enough to properly take advantage of these rare new model events. If they don't, then well.... that's a shame they couldn't plan things out better.
The GS is not a "bread and butter" car for Lexus, never has been, never will.
That honor goes to RX, ES, and IS.

"Bread and butter" is not what I should have said. I'm trying to describe Lexus's "routine" or backbone cars, or the ones that are not new niches or in specialized catagories. By bread and butter, I mean traditional sedans they've had or have always had. For example, the CT would be the opposite of this.

Don't be fooled. This is a marketing ploy and a big twist of words. Traditionally, a "new" car is one that is a total redesign or introduction of an all new model not sold before. A facelift, engine update, or the worst offender- a new option package (read F-Sport)- is not a new car.

Car companies have been using this cheat for a few years now to make it sound better than it really is. What we really get from Lexus this year is the new GS, ES, and maybe a peak at the new IS or LS, three new cars at best.

getting new GS, ES, IS and LS is not good enough? Obviously LX and RX are facelifts. Baby RX is coming too.

It's great! It's a good time to be a Lexus enthusiast right now.

felt like you expected more :-).

I think by this time next year, everything that Lexus sells will either be new, facelifted or CTh :-).

I don't care if ES is perhaps on the boring side of the Lexus family, it's still a new Lexus and I'm excited to see the final production model! With rumors saying that it looks stunning (hard to tell with all that camo), I'm very very excited especially with Lexus newfound desire for performance. Anyone have screencaps of the LF-LC teasers? I wonder which one is the ES?

I have a feeling that this new ES hybrid could damage GSh sales. Before there was only 2 hybrid sedans, the LS which not everyone could afford and then there was the GS450h. Now we have another car which is just as big as the GS, with enterior of the new GS + a hybrid and most likely 10k cheaper.... I know some will argue that people buy the GSh for performance, but personally where I live I have not seen anyone younger than 40 drive it. Thoughts ?

well there is a lot more chance of ES350, IS350 eating GS350 sales, than ES300h that will have 200hp.
It is completely different class of vehicle.

If you value comfort and mpg over performance and luxury, then ES is a lot more affordable choice.

I agree the ESh will damage the GSh in terms of sales. The ES 350 already outsells the entire GS line which includes the GS 350, GS 460 and GS 450h.

Very soon we'll have the ES 350 and ES 300h.

I don't think so.
Unlike the ESh,I don't believe many buy the GSH for the MPGs.The GSh only gets 22/25 MPGs.It sells because of it's performance.
