Default Can we trun on the fog lights with out the need of Low beam to be on

Hi All,

I want to know if somehow we can turn on only the fog lamp with out the low beam to be on? because i want to intstall bright led or Xenon into fog lamps and use it only when required. that is when the situation demands it.

The factory setting is, fog lamp can turn on only if low beam are on.

Are you asking about only having the fogs on and not the headlights at all? I ask because you ask about low beams. You do not want your high beams on in foggy weather as the reflections from the tiny water drops will make your visibility worse. It will be like looking at a white wall.

If you don't mind - I'll answer your question with another solution. I don't know of any way to make the fog lights work without rewiring and installing a new switch. I wouldn't do it. If the look you want is to have DRL (Daytime Running Lights) using LED lights on your car, you might consider what I did a few weeks ago with my wife's 2010 Lexus ES350. I was using the native DRL in which it uses the high beams - they look really outdated. I ended up turning off the native DRLs and installed multi-function LEDs to replace the front turn signals. The ones I installed are wired so that when the car is running, the front turn signals are a bright white (5K). They flash yellow when you use either the turn signals or emergency flashers. In addition, them dim 90% when the headlights are on, so as to not blind other drivers. The other solution would be to add a strip fog light next to the existing fog lights. I've seen that done on some cars.

The real pain on my wife's Lexus is that there wasn't an easy power source to tap into under the hood. All of the fuses under the hood are hot all of the time. The fuses under the dash are related to key position. In ended up tapping into the power for the windshield washer fluid pump to get a "key on" power source. It works.
