Default oil type ES350

Hi,

I've been used oil "regular Sync blend" 5wx30 for my 2007 ES 305 but now Advance Auto or Auto zone don't have this type of oil any more. They recommend me 5wx30 High mileage type only 75,000 mileage and above. My car has 70,000 mileages. What type of oil should I be using for this car?

Thanks
-Hoang

High mileage oil is good if you have leaks because it has additives that helps to swell seals stopping the leaks. If you don't have leaks you don't need it. Bad advice from those guys.

Also auto parts stores almost always charge more for oil-even on sale. I always get mine from Walmart at the above mentioned price of $26.

Any full synthetic oil. Was using Mobil 1 Extended; now using Valvoline MaxLife. Was using 5/20; now using 10/30 which stopped a slow seepage from the timing cover. Changing oil every 10K. Was using Fram Ultra XP; now using Wix XP; both made in USA.

+1 - Mobil 1 is great. Just curious. For the sixth quart, do you buy it at the single quart price (here it's $7.99 at Walmart)...... or do you buy two jugs and use what's left over next time. I hate to leave an open jug out for 8 or 9 months. I am probably paranoid ...... since the cap would be on, I doubt the additives in the oil would deteriorate.

Costco and sams sell 6x1 quart box and have them on sale sometimes. Costco currently has it on sale until, ends tomorrow

I just picked up two jugs with my first change and I buy a new 5 quart jug every oil change. I do change my oil quite a bit though as I commute close to 800 miles a week.

You guys are putting in 6ts? Oil capacity is 6.4qts with an oil filter change, which you should always replace with an oil change; I round up to 6.5qts.

I maintain 5 cars, so motor oil don't sit around too long in my household. However, motor oils are not hydroscopic (like brake fluid); so, it can sit around a while.

There's a thread on here where people discuss how much oil come out during an oil change. For most it's definitely not 6.4.

This has been tossed around and no matter how you drain or suck out the oil you will never get it all out. Even if you drain it overnight it's just not possible because of surface friction and narrow galleys in the block/heads. What remains is not a problem and helps in startup. I also doubt that anyone does not change the filter even though it is poorly located and an insert design. The normal fill process should be to put in 6 qts and start it up. Let it run for a few minutes and shut it down. Wait 5-10 minutes and check the oil and fill as needed. If you put in 6 1/2 qts without checking you have overfilled it which shouldn't be a problem with cavitation but it's best to keep it at the fill level. If your engine has been taken care of the color of new oil vs 5000 mile oil should not be to different. If you have a dirty block it will get darker sooner as the detergents are doing their job. I have 42K miles on my 2010 and change the oil every 5K miles with 5W-30 dino oil. It is clear but a shade darker at change time but still transparent.

Dip stick always shows right on when I replace with with 6.5 qts. .1 or even .2 qts over will do no harm. May affect mileage by .00001%.

Mine goes 2-3mm above max level so I usually put 6 qt.
