What other parts can be replaced while doing the water pump?
I just bought 2009 ES350 with 125K on it. Since I bought it from a Lexus dealer, they were able to pull all maintenance records for it. It does not look like that the previous owner has replaced the pump so I am thinking of doing it myself. Can someone suggest other parts that should be replaced while i am in there, so I can order them at once?

If you are set on replacing the water pump, I would replace the hoses, coolant, thermostat, and serpentine belt. Maybe one or both idler pulleys.
But, has the WP given you a reason to change it? I have 180K on original WP in our 07 ES350 and it has no leaks nor given us any reason to replace it. May replace it as preventive at 250K, but no reason to do so unless you spot a leak from the WP leak 'hole' or there is lots of gunk inside the coolant system.

No, it has not given me any reason to suspect it has gone bad, but I read a bunch of horror stories on this forum about coolant disappearing silently and bricked engines as a result, which got me thinking I should do it as a preventative measure. But on second thought I just sold my 98 ES300 which had 170k on it and never had a problem with the WP.

Water pump + thermostat + serepentine belt + idler bearings + coolant.

~$1000 is the cost of just the waterpump at my dealer.
Belt is ~$60,
Thermostat ~$30
I personally wouldn't change the idlers because I have never seen one fail on that engine, and they are easy to change if one does.

This is outrageous. $2000 for replacement of water pump? Who charges that? You could get a whole engine with 80k on it for $2500 and have it installed for few hundreds extra...(http://www.automotix.net/usedengines...qTIaAsAg8P8HAQ)

There is no significant data on this form that points to the WP as being a problem. Out of the hundreds of thousand ES that have been sold this has not been a reliability issue. So if it is leaking out of the weep hole then replace it and if not let it go but check the water level weekly as your normal maintenance practice.

Ok, water pump went out in my 2008 ES 350. I have the same question. When I am in there, what all else do I change? Do I mess with the timing belt/chain and timing tensioner? Does it have a belt or chain? Do I have to actually unbolt the engine and lift it out to change the water pump?
Thanks for your help!!
