Default P0500 code, cel, vsc

Just got this code on the 2008 ES350 today. I wasn't driving so not exactly sure about the conditions.

Apparently when the car started, it seemed weak, like the gas wasn't giving much push to the car. After turning the car off and back on again, everything seemed normal with the CEL and VSC still on.

I will be clearing the code and test driving the car for a bit to see if I notice anything strange.

One thing to note though, the car was in an accident about 2 months ago, after it was initially repaired, the adaptive headlights weren't working, they found out it was a severed wire from the accident. They fixed the wiring and I've had the car back now for a month. Now the CEL is on with the P0500 code.

I am just wondering if this could also be a result from the accident and potentially a damaged wire that wasn't completely severed? the damage was to the front right of the car.

I would like to take it back to lexus but a bit hesitant b/c most likely they would say has nothing to do with the repair done last month and charge me an arm/leg just for diagnostic/repair

UPDATE:

Looks like people are confusing this with the adaptive headlights. I meant to say the headlight issue was already fixed a month ago and now i started getting the vehicle speed sensor CEL and wanted to know if it had any correlation and if the wiring related to it happens to also be at the front right of the car (this was where the damage was from the accident). That way I can get the dealer to check and see if they actually had repaired the car fully the first time, rather than paying diagnostic fees etc.

Just tell them that the car never had any lights on before and as soon as you got in it was there.

i am aware of what the code is and what it relates to...

no one seems to read the whole post properly...

my question was could it be related to the accident that happened 2 months ago that may have damaged a wire relating to the speed sensor. damage was to the front right. Reason i ask because the wiring for the adaptive headlights were also damaged and lexus did not realize until i noticed and then they fixed it. so if this is related, i would just bring it back instead of troubleshooting myself.

also update: i cleared the code and it hasn't come back. Not sure if it had anything to do with the extreme code that could have caused the electronics to go crazy. it was -25C the day the code came up.

you know the speed sensors live in the front wheel wells so any damage in that area could affect the sensors?

Thank you! exactly the answer I was looking for.

I have emailed the lexus repair shop about the issue and waiting on their reply.

Not sure that they will do anything since the CEL hasn't come back after i reset the code.

got a response from the repair shop and they said the damaged wiring for the adaptive headlights are on a seperate wiring and should have no effect on the speed sensor.

My concern is that the accident damage was in that area where the speed sensor is also located so not sure if it was affected or if it was just a coincidence.

I will monitor and see if the CEL comes back.

What a coincidence. I was involved in a rearend collision Jan22nd which propelled me into the vehicle ahead of me. I remember being hit and my foot coming off the brake pedal than being propelled forward , then my foot hitting the brake before I hit the car ahead of me. On my way home from the accident, the motor whined, then the transmission finally shifted between 1st and 2nd , then again between 2nd and third. It did the same thing once more on the way home. The next morning it did the same thing but just between 1st and second. This occurred again twice since but hasn`t happened in the last 2 weeks.
Yesterday those 3 lights came up and check vsc message. So I checked my gas cap but it was on tight. So I unscrewed it and put back on tight. The lights showed up again. I have $3000. damage to the front end and $7500. to the back end. From reading the above,I have reason to believe that the speed sensor might have something to do with my problem too. I will get the bodyshop to check it out.
