Used ES350 Question....
Hey Gang,
I currently have a 1999 LS400 that I purchased as a certified used vehicle in 2002. Started with 33K miles, now has 197K... Long story short, it is time to replace it and I can't quite get to another certified LS.
So, I am looking at ES350s.. Drove a few, no real issues (other than its not an LS
) So, here is my general question to the forum:
Which ES350 would you trust more to purchase, a 2012'ish with 75000+ miles or a 2009ish with 50000ish miles? I guess my question really is, do big miles on young es350s scare anyone?
Looking forward to some comments.

Depends on how much it is, the shape, and the options. I prefer the 2010+ and would choose that over a 2009 and below, assuming same condition and options, even with 25,000 more miles.

If certified or warranties are important to you, I was able to get a near bumper to bumper warranty from my credit union for 50k miles for $1750. They had less expensive options too. Just food for thought if that makes a difference in what you are looking for. I believe cheaper than lexus certification too.

I am on my second CPO Lexus, a 2012 ES350 purchased with 26K on the odo for $26K. I like the certainty of three years of hassle free (in my experience). I guess it depends on your budget. I looked at the IS, too small and bumpy, and the ES and picked this. In 3 years I will likely get another CPO.

Still looking....
So, I am still looking for the right color/accessory solution. In the process I stumbled on a 2010 LS460 AWD with just about everything. (They are asking just under $25K and have had it a while....)
One issue, it has just over 100K miles and my wife thinks I am nuts for even looking at it. In my mind a well maintained LS with 100K miles is no different than a well maintained ES/LS/whatever with 50-60K miles. Am I crazy for looking at a used LS with 100K miles?

If you are still looking, LS460 is not the same as LS400 or LS430. 460s are "sproty" (read harsher ride and more road noise), less reliable and very expensive to maintain. There is a reason why an $85K car resale value comes down to $25k within a few years, that didn't happen for 430s.
I have an '12 ES and a '01 LS430 and both are really good cars, just different characteristics. I love the ES for city driving because it's quick, nimble and fuel efficient but nothing beats the comfort and zero road noise of LS for long drives.

This post is complete BS when it comes to the LS460. It is typical stuff that LS430 owners say to justify their car. Please disregard it.
The LS460 is just as reliable as the ls430, and you can even point out that it could be considered more reliable than the 430 because you don't have to worry about a timing belt failing.
The LS430 is a floaty car, but that doesn't mean the LS460 is harsh. Quite the contrary, it is a very plush ride that goes over most road imperfections with no issues. And even with the lower profile tires compared to the LS430, the road noise is almost nonexistent.
As far as the depreciation, the ls430 is just as bad. I can occasionally find $10,000 2005 UL LS430s. So that argument is also invalid.
It is absolutely absurd what LS430 owners will try to say about the LS460. Go test drive it, you'll be extremely impressed. Even the relatively quiet es350 will seem noisy compared to the ls460.

You don't have to tell people what to disregard, they can figure it out on their own. They can talk to a Lexus advisor or a mechanic who worked on these cars. Not all cars made by Lexus is great, I have not problem admitting that our RX330 is sub-par quality and I hated my ES330 due to transmission hesitation.

Hey guys,
New to the forum and I'm in the same boat. I have my eye on an 09 ES 350 and was wondering if they got the transmission issue sorted out?
I'm torn between a Mercedes E 320CDI (diesel) and the ES 350
I know strange bedfellows. For comfort and mileage they match up with the Mercedes having slight edge.
So my concern with ES is the tranny issue, anyone know if it only effected the 07 year?

If you are referring to the tranny hesitation on 4th gen ES330, then yes - it's fixed in 5th gen '07-'12 ES350. First batch of '07 ES350 had tranny failure but were replaced under warranty.

kpd: Don't forget that before 2011, the ES required premium gas. I'd also be OK with the higher mileage 2012 if its highway miles away from the badly maintained city roads of, say, Chicago or Boston.
