ES 350 Long term reliability question - Should I buy my leased car?
#16
I have had a few issues, but still like the car. Few things to check before buying:
1. transmission. Some of the 07's had bad ones. If you made it this far though, you are probably ok.
2. Oil hose. This one *isses me off as it should have been a recall like it was in Canada, not a "campaign service" or whatever they call it here. Mine blew a week ago, less than a mile from home, so no damage. But make sure you check that this has been replaced. They should do it free.
3. Fan blower motor bearings starting to make some noise.
4. I have had to replace the 2 airfuel sensors and oxygen sensors. plus a oil control valve. Apx $700
5. Check for a leaking water pump as that one can be expensive.
6. Change the radiator coolant.
7. And most important, as other posters have said, change out the transmission filter and fluid. I did mine at 82K and it was already burnt. Catching it saved the transmission. I will be changing it more often, every 30/40k.
Other than these, it really is a quiet and comfortable car, especially great for long road trips.
If you have no mxt troubles with it, then I would buy it.

The dealer is full of crap. The ES350 is one of the most reliable cars on the market. Even if something does go wrong it is not as expensive to fix as a lot of people think. The ES is very similar to the Camry. Toyota dealerships will often fix it for less than the Lexus ones. Also local shops have lots of experiences with Camry's too. They're even cheaper!
Also, if you return the car, the dealership will probably nail you with a bunch of unnecessary and overpriced repairs. FYI - My 2008 has been rock solid.

Agree 100%.
Why would a dealer tell you their brand is too expensive to maintain? Ulterior motive like he wants your car for resale. Buy your car and find a different dealer.

yes, why would the dealer miss the opportunity to make money on you? get your car and resell for more money. Profit! Check! Get you into another money making lease. Profit! Check!
Of course they dont want you to hold on to "old" car. They would have no business if everyone drove to 200,000 miles!

Hi guys,
I love my ES 350 but its time to return the car and am wondering what to do next.
The dealer guy told me not to buy it because the there is too much maintenance required over the long term on the ES. I however think that because the residual value is lower than the market value, he just wants my car.
At this point I am unsure and was looking at some of you to help me verify the dealer's claim - ES 350 is expensive to maintain from year 3 to year 6 of ownership. What has your experience been?
Thank you for your input
