Default What's Your Ideal Tire Pressure and Why

I have an '09 ES 350 with new (CPO) Nexxen tires. I was running @ 30psi and getting 25 mpg combined with a smooth and quiet ride. Never satisfied to leave well enough alone, I decided to try higher pressure for improved fuel economy. I bumped it up to 35 psi and planned on running at least one tank to experience the satisfaction of improved fuel economy. After one day of a much harsher ride than I'm willing to accept, I dropped the pressure to 32 psi and will be testing the ride quality tomorrow. If unhappy with it, I'm dropping back to 30 psi. For me, the allure of increased fuel economy isn't worth the trade off of a harsh ride. Also, I was surprised at the huge difference 5 psi made!
I'm sure that different tire brands and models will all react differently from one another and will also change characteristics as the tires wear.
Please share your thoughts about your personal experiences.

I had the MXV4 on my first ES and loved them. I wish the dealer hadn't put such cheap tires on my current CPO ES. But I've seen a pattern amongst posters that too many dealers are taking shortcuts to certify their used cars

I ran 32-34 and never noticed much difference in comfort.
As much as tire pressure plays a role in comfort so does the tire. Brand (some run larger/smaller), sidewall stiffness, rubber compound and treadwear all play an integral part in the ride comfort.

I know better than anyone about dealers being shady but I doubt even they would put Nexen tires purposely on a CPO. Most likely a leasee bought the cheapest tires for it because they knew they were returning it soon.

Nexen tires are absolutely terrible. They're they have terrible traction and are some of the cheapest tires. Which is exactly the reason why a lot of the drifters use them. You'll see it'll get especially bad when you're driving in wet/snowy conditions.
You're pretty much better off with pretty much any other brand tires (michelin, nitto, falken, bridgestone, dunlop, hankook, kumho, toyo, yokahama etc.). Nexen and Nankang along with the chinese off brands are the ones to stay away from.

Agreed that a better quality tire would most likely be more forgiving. I'm going to contact a tire dealer to see if I can get a "trade in" allowance for these Nexen and put some better tires in their place. Can't hurt to ask.
I reviewed the Lexus Driver's website to confirm that Lexus of Orlando did indeed put these terrible tires on a CPO car. They had also recommended a new air filter to the previous owner at last service, but didn't put one in as part of CPO. The engine compartment was also filthy dirty. IMO, you add all this up and you have a dealer who isn't in the Lexus spirit of a CPO car. I owned two other Lexus CPO in the past 10 years from Lexus of Ft Myers and had a true Lexus experience both times. Very disappointed with the Orlando dealership.
I contacted local tire dealers, best I could get was $300 trade in for my tires with 2500 miles on them against regular price for new tires. Not enough financial incentive to "throw away" perfectly serviceable tires. Contacted selling dealer and no concession there either. The take away, ALWAYS thoroughly check out a CPO car. I'm comfortable with these tires knowing I tried to remedy the situation.
