hood struct lift supports are dead
ok so my hood strut lift supports are like dead.
first cold day that i have been here in utha and first cold day the car has seen here with it under 30
and my hood struts would not support the hood at all.
i know one of them is like like just 13 months old the other one i am not sure about and both are lexus oem
any ideas of a better stronger hood support that i could get ?

As I recall reading in these forums over the years, think the lexus hood/hatch struts aren't the greatest.
My hood struts on my '10 never actually failed where they wouldn't support the hood, but one of them started to bind and
go up very rough/jerky getting somewhat stuck on the way up. Dealer looked at it and agreed it was defective & replaced under warranty. I had asked if they could replace both at that time anticipating the other would crap out also, but they said they couldn't and could only replace the "defective" one.
I've always noticed in the colder weather, the struts don't work nearly as well....you almost have to help pull the hood up manually
although the hood would stay open.
As far as an aftermarket replacement, I'd have to believe someone makes them. As to whether they are actually better or not is anyone's guess.

My friends have used these other ones and they've been great.
