When this happens, has anyone tried manually shifting to 1st gear? If you said yes in a previous post, I missed it.

Some people have mentioned the "flair" that their car experience. When starting out, the engine rpm will surge between 3rd and 4th. I've learned that the computer, not the tranny, sometimes has issues in very cold weather. And I live where it's really cold. I've found that on cold days, if I warm up the car normally, then, before taking off, if I manually run through all the gears, drive to 4,5,6,5,4,3,2,1 and back to drive, then I can pull out and drive away without flair or issues.

Just curious if anyone with this issue tried manually shifting the gears to see if they could drive.m

Mine started to flare lately, first and second 3-4 shift.
The shifting trick PRND43212345654D solves the problem for that day.

I tried to reflash the tranny without luck.

I would think that warming it up normally alone would help to avoid the issue. Also I know you've explained it before in other threads, but when you say manually run thru gears - you mean gear limiter in "S" mode? Does that effect anything when done at no speed?

I bought a 2008 with 100,000 kms. (60,000 miles) in Feb 2014. In May I encountered in 2nd gear, engine reluctance to accelerate and no power. The lights on the dash did not indicate anything wrong. I pulled over, shut the car off for about 20 seconds, started up again and everything worked fine after that. This happened when first start out in am and it has never occurred since. Touch wood. I'm thinking this might have been a computer glitch. I love the car and have had no other malfunctions.

I was referring to this thread. Meaning, when a person said they were in drive, give gas, 3000 rpm and barely moving, I was wondering if they tried manually shifting to 1st and if it still was no go or if it worked fine.

So, shift from P to N, then to D, then to S4, push the gear lever forward 2 times, then pull it 5 times then shift to D or R and voila.

My 2007 ES 350 did something like this recently, two days AFTER a VSC error was repaired and 1 day after 2 new tires were installed on the front. The VSC problem was a bad #4 ignition coil, which I had Stevens Creek Lexus fix.

What I experienced was a fraction of a second of engine rev (like you would get if you suddenly slipped out of gear) while accelerating away from a light. It was sort of like the transmission simply hesitated longer than usual when changing gears, enough that the loss of torque was noticeable and the sound of the engine rev caught my attention. It hasn't done anything like that before or since.

Like someone said, perhaps a personality quirk of the car. I wondered also if it could somehow be related to having the front tires replaced, but I can't imagine how.
