Considering going to 18" wheels on my '07
Greetings forum members, I'm new here, having just recently purchased a low mileage '07 in like-new always garaged condition.
My starfire pearl over grey came with less than 28K miles, but rolling on some Toyo Proxes (215/55-17) that are about due for replacement.
The stock 17" rims are in near perfect condition with only one of them having light rash. Still, I don't really like the looks of the 7-spoke stock rims and I find myself wanting 18" five spoke wheels for a more sporty appearance.
I have been researching appropriate tire size for 18" x 7" rims with a 35mm offset that I like. I'm now looking for some opinions on which way to go.
Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
215/55-17 4.7in 13.2in 26.3in 82.7in 767 0.0% **Stock size**
225/45-18 4.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.6in 777 -1.3%
225/50-18 4.4in 13.4in 26.9in 84.4in 751 2.1%
235/45-18 4.2in 13.2in 26.3in 82.7in 766 0.1%
The tire I'm leaning towards is the Michelin Primacy MXM4, but I might also go MXV4. I have no cold weather situation, and even rain is not that common in my area.
Now it seems to me that a 235 is pretty wide for a 7" rim, am I right? I don't want these tires looking like balloons.
I was also concerned that the 45 series tires would not be as kind and gentle on the bumpy roads as the 50 series.
Everything is supposed to be all good with differences under 3%, so I'm sort of leaning towards the 225/50-18 choice. Your thoughts gentleman???
