Default Plastic film on the steering wheel coming off

See photo. My 2007 ES350 has a plastic coating over the radio controls that is peeling off. Looks ghetto. Is there a product I could use to replace this or at least make it look less ghetto?

Try Sewell Parts if your interested in replacing the part completely.

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...S350-2007.html

They may or may not still sell them but they did at one time. If you can't find it on their website, give them a call

This is not a new issue and has been discussed in other threads.
There is actually a TSB (technical service bulletin) on this. It's not an official recall.

When I had an 07, it wasn't as bad as your photo....but the dealer replaced the controls under warranty at no charge.

In any case, even if you're out of warranty, you might be able to ask your dealer to "do you a solid" and replace them anyway.

You definitely don't need to replace the steering wheel in any case...those controls are separate.

Good luck.

I wonder if the plastic paint would fix this?

Hi John,

I was wondering if you ever found a solution to the peeling on the steering wheel? I am having this issue now and like you, I'm feeling a little ghetto. I need to figure out how to fix this issue.

Do the buttons peel from the edge of the button panel ? Maybe people can seal the edges with something like a nail polish sealer? and hopefully will not run into this problem.

I have not had an issues on my 07 yet, *cross fingers*.

Is this just a 2007 ES issue? Feedback please!

I took a 07 ES350 for a test drive today and both the volume buttons were totally worn off. Its not pretty when you first step into the car. Now seeing that its a $350 part, I think I'm going to keep looking and skip this one.

That quote above makes the $300 worth it in my opinion, if you ever plan on selling your car those buttons could be the breaking point to the sale. That's the thing that will stand out most during the test drive.

Is the new part any better, i.e. if I spend $300+ on it now, will it peel too some time in the future?

Default Wondering??

I'm wondering this as well. I have a 2008 and there are no signs of drying out or cracking etc. It still looks good. I'm wondering if there is a conditioner or whatever, a person could use to prevent this from happening.
