Default Extra Care Protection (ECP) Warranty

My 2010 ES350 has about 70,000km. The Lexus dealership has offered an extra protection warranty for a further 48months/80,000 km for CAD$ 3,842 to be purchased before I complete 80,000km. The extra warranty covers same as what I have now (Mechanical Protection) plus 4 Oil Changes and 1 Tire Rotation and 24 Hour Road Assistance Program. No deductibile.

I intend keeping the car for the next 5 years.

Is it worth buying the ECP?

Thanks.

Is he extending the warranty to 2017 / 150,000 total km? You would need a warranty that covers all of the car, not just your engine / transaxle.

It would be extended till June 2018 or 160,000km whichever comes first. It will cover all except break pads/rotors, wipers, filters etc which are not normally covered by the initial manufacturers warranty.
Thanks.

We just purchased our first lexus a 2010 es350. It is CPO and has 27 K the warranty goes unti 2016 the dealer wants us to purchase an extended warranty for an additional 3800. Which would give us until 2019. It would not cover corrosion paint electric. Is it worth it? What kind of repairs are normal in this car once the warranty runs out? Thanks for any advice.

The things that might go bad are the water pump ($$$), power window regulator part (plastic), module type parts that cannot be fixed (small parts of the module not available - just replacement of the whole part). $3,800 is too extreme. I would wait until late 2015 or early 2016 before buying a Lexus warranty. Or if you want peace of mind now, you can shop it via this forum for the Lexus dealership contacts that will probably sell you a Lexus extended warranty for 1/2 of what the dealer is quoting you.

Thanks for the response. I was told that you could not purchase the extended warranty after the paper work for the purchase was completed. I called Lexus and they said it was true. Any thoughts? Also my dealer told me that if we never put in a claim on the extended warranty they would refund the cost, sounded ridiculous to me. Since we are new to this forum how do I look for a dealer to buy the warranty from? Thanks again for your help.

For $3800, I would pass.

I've been driving Lexus since 1991, an ES250. Since then I have had 2 ES300s, 2 IS250AWD, LX470, 2 SC430s, ES350 and IS-F. My mother is still driving the '94 ES300 in Florida.

None of these cars have come close to needing repairs in this $ range. Doesn't mean it can't happen though.

The closest we came was about 4 yrs ago on the '94 ES, when the dealer told my mother the car needed $6,000 in repairs. The issue was not the car but dealer negligence. After discussing things with Lexus corporate the repairs were done for under $2,000. When I say dealer negligence I am referring to a car that was taken in to the dealer at least 2x/yr for service and all service intervals and recommendations followed. Yet the car suddenly had cracked axle half shaft boots, leaking cam &can seals, Valve cover gasket normal maintenance crap that should have been spotted over the years, but wasn't until I smelled burning oil while visiting her.

Thanks garsano for the referrals, just spoke to Jerry, he was so helpful the Lexus platinum is the way to go, we will purchase it from him next year when our factory warranty runs out. EJC, great to know that the car is so reliable, I always worry about buying a used car. This forum is a great source of information, so happy I signed up.

Exactly the way to go. You will pay tops 1/2 the $3800 quoted by the dealer.
