Default Trunk latch adjustment?

Hi everyone.

I recently replaced my 2002 IS300 with a 2007 ES350. Definitely different cars, but I am enjoying it so far,

One issue I have right now is that the trunk does not fully close. When it is locked, there is still some up and down play and it isn't quite as low as it should be so that the trunk is even with the rear fenders.

Does the metal "loop" for the trunk latch have any up or down adjustment or is there another way to adjust the level?

I don't have a ton of modification plans for the car. It is a fully loaded 2007 UL edition with pretty much every option possible. The only things I've done so far are update the NAV dvd to the 2012 disc, tint the windows, and add the OEM lexus rear spoiler. When I was installing the spoiler, my neighbor came over and said I am definitely the only person in the neighborhood he knows who would be drilling into the trunk of their Lexus.

Thanks!

Congrats on the new (to-you) ES!

I'm pretty sure the metal loop cannot be adjusted - that part of the mechanism is usually bolted pretty solid to the frame/chassis or substructure.

My bet is that the latch itself on the trunk lid is the culprit. With that being said I have no idea if it can be adjusted. Worst case, I can't imagine that part would be terribly expensive to replace if it came to that.

Good luck.....

You are probably right in that the actual lock might have some slide adjustment. I'll take a look.

Just as a follow up:

The bottom loop is where the adjustment is. There are two 10mm bolts connecting the loop to the car. Loosen the bolts and you can move the loop so that it is higher or lower.

The trunk is now lined up and snug when locked.

If this needs adjustment, was the car hit / repaired in the past?
