Default Another price verification thread, sorry :(

I don’t want to earn a reputation of constantly posting “price validation” threads but I found a car that I had originally set out on finding and am in the same dilemma as before on the price!

Car I am looking at-
http://www.plazalexus.com/VehicleDet...-MO/1913854953

- 2012 ES-350 with Navigation and Premium options
- Mileage is under 9K
- Single owner, traded in for an upgrade
- NOT CPO but has the remaining warranty

Asking price - $36,900, they came back with an offer of $34,900. I still think that's high. This is before tax

Any thoughts on a realistic price point? I am in no hurry to get a car and dont mind buying it from elsewhere (even if it requires me to travel to another state)

Kelly Blue Book has a today trade in value of $31,700 for the car, equipped as listed. They probably paid about $30,000 - $31,000 for it. So it seems as a fair profit. I would offer $33,500 and then split the difference. It is the last of the model design, so it may be less desireable versus the 2013. I would play it to the dealer as such.

Folks here would do the same as you can do by doing a little internet searching. We all use the same tools like KBB , NADA and others to find various prices. Then there is AUTOTRADER and CAR.com and even ebay. Take the time to do the research and then you will know your boundaries. Do the research then tell us what kind of deal you got.

Thanks Garsarno. I am seeing KBB/Nada values hovering around 33K for dealer retail for this config. If I am looking for a good deal then I was thinking in the ballpark of 32K Frankly under 32K.
I believe you scored this car NEW for 36K. A 1 year old used for 32K makes sense to me but I am in St Louis and my options are limited

I think you missed Consumerguides in your list of sites to research

On a serious note, my experience has been that the prices are all over the place and there is no consensus across these sites. I understand there is no magic number to go with and it varies by location, timing and other variables. But a forum like ClubLexus is very valuable since folks here have actually bought similar cars so may have more insight into this.

I was not intending to use this forum to validate every classified that I come across, but more to validate my thought process based on my research and leverage the expertise here

Have you checked dealer inventories in Chicago, KC or other large markets not too far from StL?

If you can get it under 34K, it would be a good price, 34.7 is an OK price.
I think if you push -- you can get under 34K. with 34K they are making at least 3K profit on the car, so they will not let you walk away.

Is there trade-in involved, this is where all the tricks happen. Otherwise buying this car under 34 which is CPO from dealer is not bad.

*** it, I did not read it. If its not CPO, then you should buy it even cheaper, 33K

Too high IMHO for a non-CPO car.

Here's a question...WHY is it not CPO? Thats like the perfect candidate for CPO, yet they aren't selling it CPO. I'd be weary.

I just started doing that and noticed a couple of good options in Chicago. I thought I would give local dealers a try first but am not too impressed as you can tell

Agreed, I am thinking more like 32K for a non-CPO like this

Thanks for asking that!!! I asked exactly that and the sales person made it sound like it was not needed since the car was practically new and the full remaining warranty applied. To me any car that's "used" and sold by a Lexus dealer ought to be CPO

The other thing to think of with it being non CPO is finance rates. They have new car finance rates on CPO, no CPO its just an ordinary used car and you'll be paying more interest.
