It's in storage for the winter therefore not being run. I'm not going to drive it in the ****ty weather just to change the power steering fluid, it's never seen snow. I plan on replacing the pump anyways after seeing the colour of the fluid.

You're going to change the pump?? For Pete's sake.......the darkening of the PS fluid is normal and in no way indicates a pending failure of the pump, nor will it likely cause a pump failure. Just suckout and refill (and drive) the reservoir in three steps and carry on driving the car. The "brighter" fluid colour may also aid you in finding the location of the leak.

Can you explain what you mean by "3 steps"? I would like to put new fluid in it, I also thought it would be a easier way to find out if my leak is oil or steering fluid until spring when I get a chance to take it to the dealer.

Suck out the fluid from the reservoir, refill with new specified fluid (probably Dexron ll or lll, but check your Owner's Manual) to the Full (cold) mark, and then go for a drive. Repeat three or four times. Stay away from the purging the fluid by running the engine method that you'll find on the web. How many kms on the car?

Thanks for posting this up. I recently found the same when I was putting on some new suspension. I always kept an eye out for the water pump/coolant leak but it was impossible to see from that angle.
Car is at the dealership at the moment and plan to hear back from them soon.

Confirmed as a CV boot leak and what we saw was the grease spray when the car was in motion. Was told if not under warranty it would've been 550$ of which almost completely comprised of labor costs. Luckily I am still covered under the manufacturers power train warranty.
