Default Brake Pad Question

Hello, I have a family member looking at a CPO 2010 ES. I've read through several helpful threads about what to look for in CPO cars, but can't find an answer to my specific question.

The car has about 20k miles on it and (according to the paperwork) appears to have original brakes/pads. Dealer claims 8mm is left on the front pads and 7mm on back. Can anyone provide a frame of reference for these numbers? Any ideas as to what mm the stock pads start at? Dealer claims 8 mm is the starting point but I'm skeptical. Makes no sense for a 20k mile car unless the pads were replaced at some point.

Thanks in advance!

Tell him you want new brake pads installed "the right way" for the deal. If he agrees and you buy the car, demand the service receipt / paperwork upon payment of the car. Best to negotiate now while the $$ is in your pocket and not theirs.
