Looking to buy pads and rotors for wife's car. Any decent affordable sets you guys can recommend? Any DIY? Do I need some other parts besides those two? No sensor piece like other cars?

Also, is bleeding the brake lines require?

My garage guy bought Lexus pads and Toyota Camry rotors for our previous 2007. Worked great. There was a rebuild type kit he got from Toyota too.

Are you having issues, or are you going by the pad thickness remaining? Fronts only or rears as well? If you are not having issues like brake judder (vibration under braking) and the rotor thickness is well over the minimum thickness, then I'd reuse the original rotors (deglaze and clean). How many miles on the brakes (if you know)?

I have always been lucky with akebono. This is usually the OEM brand.

you do not need to bleed brakes if a brake line wasn't detached and it shouldn't be if you're just changing pads and rotors. I would check tirerack.com to get an idea and see how they compare to the OEM in terms of pricing. also, akebono pads are pretty good.

I bought after market rotors and my buddy installed them. The first set have been on almost two years now with no problems. The second car's rotors have been on for 9 months, and again, no problems.
I suggest that you replace the rotors and pads with an after market set.

Thanks guys. Wife's car is at 98k miles? I really don't know how many times she had time replaced. I didn't care to work on her car before.

I will rotate the wheels this weekend and take a peak inside.

What is that kit CE117.44083 for? Accessories?

They are misc clips and such like. You can use the originals, but for the money, I chose to buy new so that all of the brake changes were new parts.

I went with Raybestos rotors and pads about 50K ago. They came with the necessary clips, and there was a lot of them!

I can't imagine doing brakes on this car is any different from any other typical car. Now the LS I had w/ the 4 piston calipers and pad sensor wire was a little more of a pain - not hard, just different.

If you want something more detailed/specific to this car, you might have better luck searching for a how-to on a Camry. I did a quick search and found this for a 2007 Camry:


I need to do brakes on my ES as well - got the parts and am just waiting for it to be a little warmer when I actually have the free time to do it!

To second the OP,

Can anyone recommend good aftermarket pads and rotors for an 07 ES 350? Was there any noticeable loss of smoothness in the ride quality after swapping for aftermarket?

Thought I would chime in a let everyone know that 2010+RX350 calipers fit on this chassis. The same calipers are on 2011+ Sienna and 2008-2013 Highlander. Upgrades the rotor from approx.300mm to 330mm or so I forget the exact numbers.

I have a V6 camry and I just did this. Great upgrade!

Took a gamble on brake rotors/pads from a Canadian brake company I've never heard of - MaxBrakes. Paid $81 for Kit # KT039211, that included two slotted/drilled front brake rotors and ceramic pads. Free shipping and no tax. Arrived within a week. Bought through manufacturer's website. Pads had backing shim but no other parts. Paid $13 for AC Delco kit # 18K1892X which includes sliding pin rubber boots and two little rubber rings that go on two of the pins. It was the most complete and affordable kit I could find on Amazon and it didn't disappoint. Unknown country of origin; there are no markings on the boxes; forgot to look closely on the rotors/pads.

Wife's ES350 has 173K miles. These rotors were fourth set installed (previously: OEM, Raybestos Pro Grad, and OEM resurfaced). Pads were also forth set installed (previously OEM, Raybestos Advanced Tech, and AutoZone). After initial test drive, everything is in working order. Rotors look sharp; time will tell as to durability.
