Default Hard to replace wipers on 08 ES350

Just bought a 2008 ES350 and I cannot lift up the Windshield Wiper Arms (both sides), the hood is so close to the wipers thus preventing the wiper arms to be raised to more than 2" (or about 10 degree angle).

Is this normal on a ES350? All other cars you can lift them up to about 90 degree angle. If I raise the hood, then I can lift the arm on the driver side only, the passenger side is still stuck.

It's very hard to replace new wipers if I cannot lift them up all the way.

In the owners manual there is information and pictures of the regular and winter postion of the wipers. To change the blades you need to have them set in the winter postion (they don't go as far down). The instructions tell how to do it.

Thanks,
The instruction in the manual is not very clear, I've read and read, but here is a better answer:

it's fairly easy to switch to winter mode, grab the passenger wiper arm (middle section where the arm connects to wiper and pull up, it'll fight you but trust me it wont break.

Or if you dont want to do that, turn the wipers on and then turn the car off.

I just changed mine. Turn them on til they are straight up in the air and then shut the car off and change them.
