Angry ES350 chipped interior chrome accent paint?

We've been having an issue where the chrome paint is chipping off of the accents near the interior door handles. A good portion of it is now completely gone, leaving only a dull gray plastic underneath. Quite frankly, this is making the car look cheap and old.

We don't abuse the vehicle and it is only 16 months old with 15,000 miles.

Does anyone have suggestions for stopping the problem from escalating?
Could it be something the car wash is doing or using to clean?
Has anyone else had this issue?
Does anyone know if this is a warranty repair item?

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

I think your Lexus dealer would take care of this problem for you even as just a goodwill item. I haven't heard of this happening but have had somewhat similar trim issues they always have taken car of. Give them a try.

I have ES350 2010 and have exact same issue where inner door chrome peeled off.
Any advise?
Will dealer replace it?

I saw it on nearly all of the used 2010 - 2012 vehicles I test drove before I bought my 2008. One car it looked like someone painted the affected area with silver paint. I think your only hope is to get Lexus to replace them.

yep there is a tsb for it, listed somewhere on this forum. I had mine done as well, when they first started to bubble. Dealer replaced all four at no charge.

The main thing about this that stinks is that all the wood trim in each vehicle is a matched set. So the door panels you get as replacements have a high probability of not matching the console wood very well. I saw one used vehicle where the dealer had swapped the door panels out with another vehicle and it was very obvious the door wood didn't match the center console wood.

Yes, I had posted the info (TSB # and associated part numbers) in the 2nd thread link listed above.

In regards to the "match" aspect, no worries.
They are actually only replacing the chrome part.....
the wood itself is not being replaced.

At the time I had only "slight problem" with one of the chrome pieces (on the driver's door).

The mgr said he would replace all 4 of them anyway as the problem would have happened eventually on the other 3 doors.

If there's a problem, Lexus (and my dealer) usually do the right thing.

.
Are you sure? The part numbers list a choice of wood colors. For $800+ list each they would be a little spendy for just a chromed bezel.

Wood? What wood! A few months ago somebody on this forum posted photos of the chromed bezel and the "wood" switch panel when they disassembled it.......it's all plastic.

All of the panels/pieces that look like wood, are wood.

Maybe I was wrong about the chrome being separate...but $800 dollar for each piece/each door ?
Doesn't seem right.

In any case, it didn't cost me .10 as Lexus replaced them all under the TSB.
