Default Mileage - 2007 vs. 2011

I was browsing the Lexus web site as I wanted to see some photos of a 2011 ES for comparison when I saw the mileage rating of 19 MPG city and 27 MPG hwy. When I purchased my 2007 I'm sure the sticker in the window stated 29 or maybe even 30 MPG hwy....? So did Lexus de-rate the MPG or did the Gov't change the way the car is rated.

For the record from a cold start I've been getting about 22 MPG for pure city driving and on the highway at 65 MPH I get between 30-33 MPGs depending on driving conditions (i.e. a/c on or off, how many passengers). I have about 39K miles on my UL now and always use Shell premium gas...

So I wondered if anyone with a 2011 ES has noted better or worse mileage compared to what they thought they were getting when they bought their car.

Default 2007 mileage

The EPA estimate was 19/27 and this was changed to 21/30.

The actual fuel mileage of the car didn't change. What changed is how the EPA tests cars.

Also the 2011 is rated for Regular (87) fuel and not Premium as in previous years. That will also effect the mileage

Yes, the EPA changed the way they rate cars, so the EPA rating on the 2007 changed vs. the sticker wihen they first came out.

The MPG ratings are the same on 2007-2010 on premium and the 2011 on regular, 19/27 for both reg. and prem.

I've still got my window sticker somewhere, I'm going to look for it to double check but I'm pretty sure 2007 was the first year of the new EPA calculations and my sticker included both numbers - then again I could be dreaming that was the case. I'll take a photo of it and post.

Anyone with a 2011 noticing better or worse mileage then the estimate?

I can't wait to see what Lexus does with the 2012!

i have had 2003 es, 2007 es, 2007 rx, 2011 es. Mileage has been similar. I have never had less than 26 mpg with my new 2011 ES WITH 4,000 MILES.
However i get less with rx, because its 4wd in my opinion.
Remember to get accurate and i have checked the old way, you must reset mpg indicator for kind of drive you are into. This mileage indicator is total average mpg which includes all driving local and highway. When i go on to the highway which i do most of the time i depress disp switch twice.,when entering highway and i usually get somewhere around 30-33 mpg on es and around 24-30 on rx. This is only on highway driving. My 2007 es was a little better. I think mileage on these cars are terrific.
Oh i forgot this mileage is when rpm is 2k or 65-70 mph.

I have a 2007 ES350. I use 87 octane. I get 22-23mpg city and 29-31mpg highway. I think the best I ever had was 31.5mpg.

My '07 sticker says 21/30. The EPA did get more restrictive since then. My mileage has always exceeded the posted. I average 23+ city and an amazing 32-33+ highway.
