Fixed JL Audio slash 500/1 mono amp to the back of subwoofer box, tapped stock subwoofer for speaker level amp input, perfectly tuned to match factory audio (non-ML premium audio with Nav). This subwoofer is no boom box, bass is solid and adequate.

With this addition Lexus ES350 Premium Sound is full.

I'm not Jeeva613 but I'll bet he doesn't know. But it also doesn't matter. As long as you use the appropriate sized wire then it shouldn't be a problem. I'm installing a 1,000w Powerbass into my car and will use random 4ga wire. Nothing from an installation kit.

Did you uses a CAPACITOR or do THE BIG 3 upgrade?

A cap is just a band-aid for a bigger problem. None of the real car audio competitors use them.

The big-3 is overkill for most systems installed in an ES-350. Heck, I even used 6ga wire for my install. Not optimum but more than adequate for the amp I'm using.

Default Stock subwoofer connections

Hi, I'm a "new" 2008 ES 350 owner for a week now! Awesome car!

Very nice system you have & great writeup. I was curious about the 4 wires going to the stock subwoofer... it appears you tapped the red & black, what are the other 2 wires going to the stock sub? The aftermarket sub I am installing has 4 speaker level inputs (2 for left and 2 for right) - are the other two wires going to the stock sub just the left (or right) channel?

Thanks! Bob

It's one channel of the amp feeding the stock, dual voice coil sub. He could have tapped either set of wires with the same results.

I used 4 awg amp kit with 60A fuse. As bob mentioned above stock sub is dual voice coil, both inputs carry same low frequency signal.

Thanks for the help with the sub connections! Will be installing a small sub and the VAIS XM kit this weekend.

I cover running the power wire for the amp as well as removing the stock radio in my thread on upgrading the entire stereo. It is a 2 person job.

I know this is about a year old thread, nonetheless, wanted to thank the OP for the post! I had recently used this write up to install MTX amp & 12" sub This brought life to the audio system and made it fun to drive!

Was thinking of getting a 12"... but don't want too much bass. Do you think a really good 10" would be just as good?

Hoping not to lose too much trunk space while I am at it.

I went with the 12" cause it was on sale at the time I tuned the bass gain slightly lower on it so I think 10" would have done the job too...
