Default Arm Rest Issues

Does anyone have issues with their armrest wearing thin or with discoloration issues with their 08 ES 350. I took the car into the dealership because the area where I rest my arm was becoming discolored. That's what a armrest if for, right? The dealer tells me this is normal wear and tear but did present the issue to Lexus Corporate who agreed to due a one-time good will gesture and redye the leather. The cost would have been $120.00. Is the armrest there for decoration and not for actual usage? WTF!

I had an '07 with light gray interior for nearly 4 years with no discoloration.

Now have a '10 with tan with no problem.

It's good the dealer with cover re-dying for you.

How often do you clean/condition the leather?

Yes, the armrest is for resting your arm. I'm guessing since you are in TX that your arm is sometimes hot and sweaty when you get in your car. I have light gray interior and have not had that problem other than to know that when it starts showing some 'use' it is time to clean it.

The oils from your arm is what's affecting the material. This is common if you have skin contact with the armrest frequently. The remedy is to either not put your arm there. Or clean it with a good quality leather cleaner a few times per week. This will only take a few seconds and will make a huge difference. You have to get your skin oil off the material so it won't damage it.
