I see a few attempts on this site to convert the ES to some sort of pimp mobile or rice rocket . Based on some of my research prior to buying an ES (IS in the 20's and GS in the 40's with RX targeted for Female) it seemed like the target buyers were males in the 55+ age range. Interesting enough was the fact that most of us old timers were here for the great automotive years of modified cars and hot rods. Also if you visit a lot of these classic car shows you'll find that most of the owners are 55+ in age and their cars are their hobby. I'm betting they have a Japanese car in their house hold. Coming from a Jaguar background I was looking for a soft couch like ride for long trips and after years of Jags decided to go to Lexus. So the net here is what is the age group associated with this site. Is it the 20's or 30's or 40's or is it what the Lexus people have targeted. Then again maybe this site Is not reflective of the majority owners. Just an observation.

My guess is that, in general, the ES forum isn't too representative of the majority of owners. A while back JD Power published the demographics of the buyers of most cars. At that time the ES350 was bought by an older demographic (something like 65% of buyers were age 56 and up). The only Lexus model with an older demographic was the LS.

Lexus has sold 200k-250k of the current gen ES and again, my guess only, is that a lot of the older conservative buyers probably don't frequent enthusiast sites like here at CL unless they have a particular problem/issue that they are looking for help with.

Age is a factor in marketing. So part of you fits the Corvette and Jet Ski but another part prefers the ES. Just ask yourself why you didn't buy the IS/F instead of the ES. The ES to me is for the long highway trips , going to play golf and going to town for dinner. My Ferrari is for driving the country roads and going out for some ice cream. So it looks like the marketing folks are playing to the majority.

I'm well aware that I was far out of Lexus' target market when I acquired my ES. But it's likely that most of the older demographic sector who actually buy the ES will not ever browse to CL, much less become a member.

While short, my highway-eating time with the ES was great. Will definitely be a Lexus customer when my lifestyle demands a cushy car again.

Lexus has stated that they'd like to lower the average age of their cars, which is easier said than done for any car maker.

It will be interesting to see how Buick does with the new LaCrosse and upcoming Regal. LaCrosse ads certainly are geared towards a younger buyer than the typical Buick customer, but I wonder if it will work.

I don't believe the hype of the ES vs oldies. Most youngers will turn heads when seeing an ES, the design is classy, not old. Until car design is duplicating the L finess design, the ES will always be an head turning hit.

I agree that style was the reason for most of us to buy this car. If you look at the copy cat Buick from the side view they are pretty much a like. It may be a head turner but I suspect that a lot of younger folks don't want to pony up $40+ K for a couch cruiser. Granted the LS is aimed at the 65+ age group I think the ES settles in for us retiree class. It's all a matter of taste I guess but if I see something I don't like I'll feel free to express it.
