Q: puddle lamps and AFS on a UL ES350 2008
Well, i've asked the Toyota dealer that sold me the car about the puddle lights and Active Swivel lamps on my car, they don't know a lot about Lexus, so i guess i won't have the answer from them. On the booklet, it shows the AFS button underneath the steering wheel, but i don't have one ?? where could it be located ?
Plus, i have puddles lamps underneath the side mirrors, but it doesn't light up, again, it there a button for that inside the car ?
I don't have the brochure for the ES350 2008, but since my car is the UL package, would it be included ?
thank you in advance.

As long as they haven't changed anything, the AFS button is actually a little further down under the dashboard on the driver side in the center.. There would be 2 buttons (one for the AFS and one for the TPMS reset) If you get down on your knees, you'll see them for sure. They are located dead center.
As far as the puddle lamps, there is no switch that I'm aware of.
When you walk up to the car and it is dark outside, they should automatically activate when you approach the car (it detects your FOB). Essentially, if it's dark enough for the AUTO HEADLIGHTS to come on, it's dark enough for the puddle lamps to activate.

Odd, i just tried it tonight, coming to the car, but nothing happen. I played with the remote by holding it in the unlock for 5 seconds, then the puddle lamps came on.
Aside that, the lamps do not lid up when cruising by the door, even opening up the door....
So that understand correctly, it should lit up automatically when approching the car without using the remote ? if so, something's wrong.

Yup....if you walk close to any of the doors, the fob should be picked up and the interior lights should activate along with the puddle lamps should pop on.
You should not have to use the FOB manually to get them to work.

Puddle lamps
You should look under your outside rear view mirrors. There should be a light under there. If not then you don't have puddle lamps..Although I'm sure why you wouldn't, because I think they are standard even on the base model...

On my 2010 the puddle lights only come on automatically if the doors are locked. If the doors are unlocked I can press the unlock button on the fob and they come on instantly that way too. The owners manual is apparently mistaken on this point. it says they come on no matter what the door lock position is. Either that or my brand new 290 mile car was delivered defective? Maybe some one else can test there car?

My puddle lamps come on as soon as I walk up to the car. I wonder if it is a factory setting that can be changed. Like the way I had them change my headlights to shut off as soon as I open the door instead of staying on for 30 seconds or so? There is a list of the factory settings in the manual. But, I'm not feeling the love to check that out right now.

Just checked the manual, the puddle lights are dealer cumtomizable. The puddle lights default setting is ON when the doors are in an unlocked state. So I guess my car got switched at some point in the 22 miles it had when I got it? Still I would like to hear from others, do yours come on when the doors are both locked and unlocked?

humm, tried again today after work, still not lighting up automatically whem coming near the car, i had to use the FOB to unlock the door, which i should not have to, then the lights lighted up.
Not only puddle lights does not lid up, but also the interior as stated on the manual: all the ambient lights should light up when opening the door, not mine ???!!! There most be a switch somewhere to activate it ???

After make tries, i notice that the puddle lamps will only go on if i push the unlock on the FOB unit before coming close to the car, so i guess that the function is not activated by default. Will Lexus dealerships take a look at it without charge ?
thank you
