WOW. Just priced out tires on the Tire Rack website. Prices have come down on premium tires. The best deal is the Michelin Primacy MXV4, at $139 for a 620 mileage rated Michelin. The OEM tires are at $182 for a 260 mileage rating, the Kumho Solus is at $105 for a 440 rated tire. My Solus tires have 16,000 miles on them and look to have decent tread life left. Will go to the Primacy late this year when these get down to 4/32" or so.

Had the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity and had a set of wider 225/55-17 Primacy's installed today. On sale at $157 + shipping from Tire Rack.
Take it from me,I've had both on the same car and the 'H' Primacy is smoother and quieter.
The 'V' Serenity's are much better than stock oem 'V' rated EL 400-02 but go Michelin.

Joe, are the Primacy tires you put on much noticeably wider on the car?

225's are only .4" wider so there is a more aggressive look but of course not a huge difference but noticeable,IMO.

What are the dis/advantages of the wider tires? Worse gas mileage but better handling? Are these smaller, same size, or taller than the OEM size?

I went bigger for the look with the .4" wider 225..
The 225 is .21" taller than the 215 so a bit taller sidewall will give you a little smoother ride.Speedometer reading is now 66 at 65 on the dial.I don't know if there will be a difference in gas mileage. Can't be much,if anything.
Handling doesn't seem any different.

Looks great Joe. Little bit wider makes a difference. Lexus really should have at least put this size on the ES. Do you have any idea if the dealer can recalibrate the speedometer?
Think I'd like to go with the same tires you got, but cops around where I live are VERY speed strict and I'd prefer my gauge being accurate.

Richard, your speedometer is off at least 1-2 MPH faster at 65 MPH from the factory. So the difference will be 0-1 MPH faster reading with the 225 size.

Oh ok Joe, I didn't know that. I'm not prone to speeding but last ticket I did get was 45 in a 40. So that slight bit off concerns me. But if it's already calibrated slightly faster, than I don't see a problem. Thanks.

Yeah he was even with me being extra polite to him. But, I was too lazy to go fight it so just paid. I know others around by me with similar tickets...30 in a 25, a 50 in 45, etc.
That's why the speedometer calibration being off just a little concerned me.

You're probably right.
The state does have a $11 mil deficet. The new Governor Christie is cutting programs and state spending.
That's one way to bring in revenue.
