When you originally thought about buying an ES 350, what was most attractive to you? Why did you buy the car? Also, did you consider or test drive the IS and GS before deciding on the ES? If so, what swayed your decision?

I would like to hear from those of you that considered other Lexus products before deciding on your ES 350.

Looked at the GS and thought front seat / console was too tight for everyday family car. For my business use, would be OK. Had the IS250AWD when they needed to replace 2 transmission in our ES350. LIked that too but too small, esp the back seat. Daughter loved it though. We had a '99 Town Car before the ES350 and thought the back seat room was comparable.

Looking at the results, I would like to hear a little more from those of you who drove the GS, but ultimately decided on the ES.

In terms of dynamics, how did you feel that the ES and GS compare - steering, handling, body roll, ride, etc.?

FWD > RWD for an all weather DD.

i cant deal with RWD in snow/ice, and we have a winter here in MD.

plus at 20 an IS was rediculous to insure. with the GS id be tempted to get the V8, which would kill me on gas and maintenence.

I went from wanting and IS, to an ES, and finally settled on a GS. Felt like I got the best of the IS and ES, at least for the things that were important to me. All of them were fine cars, just liked the GS better. It's a personal choice in many ways. Good luck!

I voted for my brother.

At the time, I had an IS350 and my sister has a GS300. He's driven both but ultimately did not like them as much as I did.

My brother chose the ES350 because of (in order of preference) looks, size, ride comfort, technology, and (the lack of) performance. Although he was only 26 at the time, he drives like a 60 year old.

I think he would have been happy with an ES250 had there been one on the market...

We drove the IS ES and GS. I went there thinking I wanted an IS350 but was concerned about winter days when my steep driveway ices up, seemed like too much power on an RWD and didn't really want the IS250.

The GS was fine but simply too much money for us at the time.

So we ended up with an ES and haven't regretted it in the least.

Well, each of these models is a class of its own. IS is prob. for younger guns, more sporty looking. ES is more for family type people who wants space and comfort. GS is another class of its own. More expensive, but high performance, style is sexy and can accomode any type, just mho. I tested all 3 before decided to buy the GS430.

GS was a little too pricey for me...The ES is slightly larger than the GS. I like how both cars look, but I give the edge to the ES. Never considered the IS because it is too small for my taste, but having said that I like the design, but the ES still comes out on top. Hey, you can't go wrong with any of these cars really.

I narrowed it down to a 2008 IS250, ES, and Camry XLE. I chose the IS. I loved the ES's exterior styling, but ultimately it was too expensive and I didn't want the older person's stigma. The Camry's dynamics didn't do much for me, although it would have been the more sensible financial choice. I also don't like having a car that the masses have. That takes away it's specialness in a way.
Looking back, I think I made a good compromise with the IS. I do however see myself in an ES later on down the road. Either way, I feel Lexus makes the best sedans out today.

I had to answer other because there were a few reasons in the survey that I used during the decision process.
1. The IS was to small
2. The GS was to cramped inside
3. The ES was soft and quite and the right size for driving trips of 3-6 hours.
4. When I want a cramped , firm , cornering car I take out the Ferrari

The Lexus IS was my family's first Lexus. We got the IS250 back in 2007, and then my family fell in love with Lexus from Toyota. Now, my mom is looking at getting an ES350 and who knows what's next. haha

Considered an IS, were driving a 2002 ES 300 at the time. Drove the IS a couple of times and just couldn't make our minds. We thought we wanted something a little sportier and smaller. We were talking with the salesman and he said from what we were telling him, we should drive the ES350 before we made up our minds. We wanted something that rode smooth and quiet. He talked us into testing the ES and we liked it. So we got a 2007 ES 350, been very happy with it for trips. Have been to Myrtle Beach SC two times, numerous trips to Pittsburgh Pa. (300 mile trip). Last winter we went to San Diego to visit and probably put on 6000 to 7000 miles, in 3 months, of sight seeing. I don't think we would have liked the IS for that trip, not enough room. Plus the trunk on the IS would not hold 4 golf bags.
