Default Dim Lights on 2007 ES

I recently brought my 2007 ES in for service and was given a 2009 ES loaner. I have seen previous threads regarding the dim internal lighting on the ES. The 2009 had much brighter lights for the driver and front passenger. I asked the dealer if there was a "upgrade" or some kit we can apply and they said no. The light bulbs look to be the same form factor, so I was wondering if it could be a simple bulb swap. Has anyone else gone down this path? I emailed Lexus to see if they had a better answer.

I was wondering if you had gotten a reply back from Lexus.

They did do a terrible job with interior lighting on the 07's. There is no independent control for the rear seats and even when you turn on every light individually, you can't see the change compartment and there's just not enough light in the car overall. This is the risk you run when buying a first-year model I guess. The LED bulbs on the inside and on the rear license plate were a nice step forward though. I've noticed BMW is now using the LED's on the plates.

I traded an '06 IS350 for my '07 ES350. The IS had much better lighting and was the first thing I noticed once it got dark after taking delivery. Very annoying detail considering how right most other things are in the '07. I like my '07 but the dimly lit interior is a source of frustration for me everytime I need to get something in the dark.

My method for overcoming the dim interior lighting is to flip down the sun visor and slide open the vanity mirror cover to turn on the mirror light. For some reason the vanity mirror lights are extremely bright even though the other lighting is not.

I don't venture up here often, but when I do, it never fails that I see a post like this that makes me go... Something so stupidly simple as to make me feel like a dumb azz for not thinking of it myself.

Thanks Em!

Has anyone been able to swap out the dim bulbs? I ask my dealer to "fix" the dim interior lights but they gave me the usual "everything works as normal" crap.

There is a web site www.hoenusa.com that sells brighter interior bulbs. You will need to know the bulb number to see if they stock it.
