Default New Tires

Anyone try the new Toyo Versado tires? They seem to be getting rave reviews and are specifically designed for Luxury autos.

Quote:
"Toyo is jumping on the VIP style boat with their new Versado LX luxury tire line. The Versado line is specially designed to reduce road noise and has an optimized tread pattern to contribute to smooth riding all day long. The Versado line will be offered in sizes and widths that specifically cater to cars such as the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Chrysler 300, Lexus LS430 and others."

I am on my second set of OEM Michelin tires. They were replaced under Michelin warranty because they wore out within 9,000 miles for a slight cost. The car has 18,000 miles on it and the second set of Michelins are getting thin. I will try for a third set under some kind of warranty but if this fails, then it will be Kumho tires.

I need new tires for my 2007. The Michelin Energy's have lasted 30,000 miles. Is that normal?

Has anybody tried the Michelin Primacy? It is rated 94H, but the OEM Michelin Energy is 93V. Is it necessary to use 93V on the ES350?

I live in Massachusetts so they need to be able to handle the winter conditions.

Can anybody give me suggestions for new tires?

Thanks,

Lisa

The Michelin Primacy MXV4 are the next tires going on my ES330 next. The originals lasted less than 40k miles. The MXV4's have gotten great reviews about smooth ride, great wet handling and good in the snow. We'll see. They are expensive though. $140/tire adds up

Default Michelin Primacy MXV4

I've had the Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my ES350 for one month so far with 1500 miles driven (Quebec, Vermont, New York and back home in Ontario Canada). I drove at highway speed, city, hot temperature and rain. No snow yet.
They are quiet and handle as good as expected for a car with a soft suspension. Best of all, they have a written warranty of 100000KL (60000 miles). Michelin would not give a written guarantee for the tires that came with the ES350. Mine wore out after 32000 miles. They are a bit expensive. But, I think they are worthed.

i've had the michelin primacy tires for about 7000 miles and they ride similar to the oem michelin energy tires. the discount tire sales person - who is very knowledgeable imho - said the lower speed rating might be noticeable in extreme handling but for the practical use most cars get it wouldn't be noticeable and i agree. it is nice to have the 60k warranty. i've not used them in the snow yet but that time is coming soon.

I checked the rating out before I purchased my Michelin Primary. The difference is that they may be rated at 110 mph instead of 120 mph for a sustained time. I don't remember the exact speed. But, it was much higher than what the average Lexus ES350 drivers do.

Based on info I got from Tire Rack, the Primacy MXV4 in the 215-55-17 tire size is H-speed rated--meaning it's rated to a maximum speed of 130 mph. Unless Michelin makes a Canadian-specific Primacy MXV4, the Primacy MXV4 is speed rated at either H or V (149 mph), depending on the tire size. But yeah, either speed is much higher than what average ES 350 drivers drive at...although I have driven my ES at near 130 mph on more than a few occasions.

Anyways, even if the tires you purchased are indeed rated at 110 mph...it may not be a good idea to use tires whose speed rating is lower than the maximum speed that the vehicle is capable of driving at (or, is limited to). I don't know Canadian vehicle manufacturer regulations, but here in the U.S. I think vehicle manufacturers cannot mount OEM tires on vehicles at the factory where the tires' speed rating is lower than the vehicle's maximum allowed speed. I'm almost certain this is true--I once owned a Chevy Tahoe whose 5.3L engine was quite capable of making it go faster than 100 mph...yet its max speed was electronically limited to 100 mph because the factory tires were S-rated (112 mph).

Tony
You are quite correct with the speed numbers. I just could not remember the exact speed I had read. All I remembered was that I was never going to drive that fast.
So for me the H rating serves my needs and the large majority of ES350 drivers.
I get a quiet, smooth and long lasting tire. I'm happy with that.

Just bought a set of Yokohamas on Tirerack. So far so good.

Those of us who lease need to return the vehicle with the same specs. Had to go with the V-rated tires.

I am looking for tires too. The Energy tires have no warranty, but are only 30K tires per the guy at NTB. He recommended to stick with V rated tires vs the Primacy H rated. I have not made any purchase yet, but may look at the Primacy per the notes above.

Im putting Generals on the car this week, original tires are done for, car has 27k.

I give the car back in 7 months but even if I was keeping it I would not spend the money on the michelins just to have them wear out that fast again.

Im more worried about what car to get next, really want to buy a domestic but the pickings are slim, might check out cadillac.

Friend of mine repalced the OEM Michelins with General tires. Immediate difference in ride quality. Also, on Tire Rack, discontinued Blizzaks on sale in the ES350 size at $75 plus shipping.

My GMC PickUp came with Generals. I had one unexplained flat and one blow out in 11K miles. I threw the damn things away and replaced them with Goodyears. General never bothered to answer my email. I will never buy another General tire again as long as I live.

BTW, the ES350 has 17" wheels, which everyone seems to like for looks. Tire for tire 16s would wear better. With that being said, 27K miles is pretty good for a 17" 55 series tire. The OEM Michelin is a darn good tire, IMHO.

On my second set - less than 19,000 miles for both. Michelin replaced all at around 9,000 miles for $50 per tire including mounting / balancing. Now these are almost worn out at 19,000 miles. I wonder if they'll cut me another deal for these?
