Dash speaker upgrade to ML - cost/benefit?
I have an 07 ES350 with the standard audio system. I find it lacking in midrange and to have too much treble. Tweaking the tone controls doesn't result in a satisfactory setting. I suspect this is due to there only being tweeters in the dash speakers. Looking at the TIS diagrams, I see the ML stereo has the same 1" tweeters in the dash as the standard stereo, but adds 2.6" midrange speakers. I'm unable to find 2.6" speakers at retailers/Crutchfield, etc. So, I'm thinking of buying them from Lexus. Does anyone know what they'd cost & where they can be had at discount (eg online)? I assume the grill plus tweeter plus midrange is sold as one assembly.
Has anyone else found a way of improving the sound quality of the standard stereo at a reasonable cost?
Also, I see that the door speakers on the standard system are round 6.5" ones and those on the ML model are 6"x9" ones. Is the door cutout such that it can accommodate either one, or are the metal door panels different for the two models of cars?
Thanks for any advice... I traded an 07 Camry XLE (with a 2nd bad transmission) for this Lexus, and am disappointed that the audio is worse than that of the cheaper Camry. Unfortunately, the extra $3K required for the better stereo (ML) was out of my price range.

that is quite a disappointment to me. If you want a good stereo in the ES, you have to upgrade to the ML or go aftermarket. Its a shame the standard stereo isn't the quality of the $250 upgrade 2002 Toyota Avalon stereo. The stereo options was the main reason I didn't buy the ES. I toyed between buying the ESul, but instead I bought the RL. I would have been very happy with a standard ES with a cheap upgraded stereo.
