Default Snow Tires- Need advice please

Hi:

Can I use 225/55/17 on my Lexus ES 350 2007? Recommended size is 215/55/17.

Thanks

also to add to that...was wondering how necessary snow tires are in the first place? Im in Toronto, Canada. And my last car was a 1989 benz 190e RWD with no traction control, stability etc.

I drove my car all last winter and found the Michelin all-season tires along with VSC and TRAC were fine for city and suburban driving. After a snowfall the main roads around here get cleared off pretty quick.

I'm sure you guys get more snow in Ontario and Quebec though.

I ran mine last year with the Michelins and no problems with snow traction here in Northeast PA. If they are fairly new, should be no issues, esp in the Brampton area (familiar with Brampton).

The answer is "probably". Tires vary a great deal between brands and types even within the same size. I don't think you will run into problems with the width but you would be altering the overall diameter of the tire and that would affect your speedometer. I don't know if that in turn could cause issues with the ECU. I would suggest you look at Tire Rack and compare the specifications of the original tire to whatever you are interested in.

as mentioned above, tirerack is the place to go. better yet.. just save the 600$. i dont see the needs of swapping what you already have not to mention it's FWD.

Outside of a break out from 1' of wet snow in front of the car (thought I could drive off without shoveling), never had a traction problem or close to getting stuck with the OEM all season tires.
