Not sure what you are talking about as far as the push button glowing if the battery is dead. If the battery dies, you just need to get in the car to release the hood so you can jump it.

There must be something to that key hole though. I couldn't find anything in the manual, but the manual is so poor, it may be in there and I just can't find it.
The Manual doesn't mention this but your Sales Person should have ......... On the ES the Driver side door Handle has a small slot under the right side of the handle .......... Insert your key the 1/4" into the slot and CAREFULLY pry it out towards yourself ....... the crome color CAP will pop off and the Key hole will be visible ............ Insert the key and turn towards the back of the car, twice, and it will open all the doors.......... Then pop the hood if you need to jump the battery or Hold with the Lexus symbol close to the start/stop button and see if the button turn green ( with foot on Brake) ..... then you can start and get the remote battery changed out.

Also, I have heard that the key fob ....... in the event of a CarJacking, will keep the motor running until the vehicle is approximately 1 1/2 to 2 miles away......... then the engine immobilizer kicks in ( due to lack of responsive signal from Fob) and the vehicle shuts down on it's own. I have not tested this yet, so it is pure hear/say........ hope to run a test soon.

Here in Las Vegas you can do the same with valet parking but tell them to press the button to turn it off ONLY when it is parked. Then when you pick up the car hand them the remote.

This keeps anyone from taking a joy ride or, shall we say, borrowing it.

It works neat because you're sure that your car will still be there when you return.
true, and if you turn off the car it wont start again, so this further keeps people from taking it. i think its safer

Nope, different beep. Not a chime, a beep or a type of an alarm. Message on dash says key not detected.

No it's not for the open door. When I get out to check my mail (mailbox), I DELIBERATELY don't close the door all the way. This prevents the annoying beep. If I close the door all the way, it will beep.
