Sorry to rain on your parade but this is a chat forum to give opinions on our cars.
Recently, I was given an ES350 as a loaner. Had it for 2 full weeks. I'm a former ES300 owner. I liked the ES300 but we had a few problems with it and it lacked front leg room for us longed legged people. I was expecting the new car to be far superior. Here's what i found:
-Still has that hesitation the ES's are notorious for.
-The overall feel of the interior seems cheaper than previous models.
-The design of the interior is not to my liking.
-The front legroom is still a problem for long legged people.
-The sound system could have been better for a premium car.
-I didn't like the ride, I am used to sport suspensions but my old ES300 didn't make me hate driving the car.

On the other hand, it is a very handsome car. I really dig the styling. The look is true Lexus. Some people think it's a Camry deriviative but I don't agree. It looks like a lexus. Some things could be fixed for my pleasure. A set of 20's will improve the ride. Nineteens would probably be better but then it would need to be lowered and I don't think there are any lowering kits for this car. Then I would add a wood package to the interior and a subwoofer to the sound. Not much I could do about the legroom and the hesitation, I guess you could get used to it. Still, a nice car but not for me.

Enjoy your cars.

I want to love this car, it fits my needs perfectly. However, the ongoing rattles and trips to the dealer to have them pull the car apart and put it back together again to solve rattle issues has soured my taste. I am lucky to have a good tranny, it does not have the 3-4 flare. In the winter, when cold, the cold engine knock is annoying. Not expected from a Lexus.

Get rid of the engine knock and the rattles and I could really enjoy this car.

I have mine for about 2 months now. Put down already 8700kms on it(this looks a lot to many ppl). The car will return to dealership for 1st schedule service. I have no major problem with my ES. No transmission flare/slip. No rattles. I did notice the diesel-like sound when starting the car in cold morning. However, it totally disappeared after around 5000kms. I am now very happy w/ the car. The most impressive thing I have to say about the ES is how it can really save on gas! It runs 610kms/tank!(i drive 30% highway/70% city) from a 3.5L/272hp car. that is really amazing!

When winter returns, your cold engine knock will return. Mine is not too bad at this time of year either, it has to be really cold outside to get it to knock.

It's a sweet car, I think Lexus could have put a better tire package on the car, maybe a wider 17 but Lexus has this as their entry level luxury car and the typical buyer is probably not looking to spend more then they have to for replacement tires, I wonder if a sports package with an 18 will ever emerge.

Overall great car and the only negative is this car hauls ***, and you don't feel it

you are lucky. Mine still knocks like it is trying to throw a rod and it is in the 70s in the morning. Can't wait til it get cold.

My experience is that the hestiation is gone between my 2002 and 2007 ES. But maybe it's just me. I've found the difference night and day.

I had a loaner and was floored, I can see why Lexus continues to sell 70k of these a year even with increased competition?
Perfect? No, but no car is.

I agree. I can see why the ES is selling so well and no doubt will continue to do so. It's a good value for an entry level lux car that will hold its resale value. Nice looking both inside and out, good build quality, very good straightline acceleration, comfortable ride, decent handling, outstanding gas mileage (regular unleaded is $3.60+ around here). It has a lot to offer.

I agree, night and day difference. We have owned a 3.0L 2001 Sienna, a 3.3L 2004 Sienna, and now the 3.5L ES. Even though the Sienna was not an ES, it still had the hesitation problems. The 3.5L is not perfect, but 95% better.
