Default Early build dates and tranny slip?

I seem to remember a thread discussion here, or in a related ES350 forum, about how early build ES350s had some quality control issues with th eengine/transmission. It mentioned something about how the egine would rev between 30 and 40 mph while the tranny was trying to get to the next gear (3rd I think) and then finally the transmission would get into gear successfully. Some posters said they saw an idiot light come on and had to take their cars in to be serviced.

Does anyone have more information on this issue and where I might find out more about it? I ask because although I picked up my car in July last year it is only now coming up on the 5k service and I've always intermittantly noticed the above mentioned slippage.

Thanks,
SammyS

Sammy, just search for 'flare' or 'transmission flare' and you'll find a myriad of threads on the issue.

Oh yes, your describing the early trans, been referred to as the “#1” or “A” trans so that would be 04, 05, maybe 06 (which also started the valve body issue). The 07 is the start of the flare ¾ problem. Look in “Change In Launch Date?” thread.
