From the day I picked up my car from the dealer I used 91 or 93 octane. After about 2 months I switched to 87 octane, and have been using this grade until the present. I might add......if I noticed any difference in performance or fuel economy I would switch back to a higher grade of fuel, but as of yet......NO DIFFERENCES!!!

Another thing I was thinking about.
How are you sure that when gas stations offer mulitple grades of fuel, you're getting the proper blend that you're paying for????

I started using 89 a few weeks ago. Ran 93 since May because most stations around here do not carry 91. I have experienced no difference in performance. And if you have read my thread on my recent trip....incredible gas mileage. Maybe next road trip I will run 91/93 to see if there is any difference.

I used 91/93 the first few months after I picked up the car. Then I switched to 89. No difference whatsoever. I suspect the same would be true if I went to 87 but I don't have enough guts!

I used a lot of 87 octane on a recent vacation, with no change in performance or gas mileage. I've been using 89 recently just out of habit, but could just as well use 87.

Have used 91 or 89 since purchase. Have a couple of nearby stations that have great prices (Shell and Costco) so getting premium or mid grade has been less expensive than most of the regular unleaded prices. No effect on performance. Car runs smoothly and has great pick-up on either.

I use 91 or 93 octane. The price difference for a tank of gas is so little that it's worth it to me. (I'm one for following directions.) If anything ever went wrong I would be sure that it was because I used lower octane gas.

I once read in the newspaper that car manufacturers will require you to put premium unleaded in your car to hit the maximum horse power stated in the manual and brochure. This way, they can post higher h.p. numbers for marketing purposes. This will sell more cars. We all look at horse power before making a purchase. So, just like the manual is saying, it will run on 87, but you won't get the maximum performance. In order for Lexus to post that 272 horse power figure in the brochure, you gotta put premium in the car.
By the way, after reviewing this poll, I put my first tank of 89 in the car yesterday and drove it about 80 miles so far. Don't see any difference (however I know it is early).
