XM Installation
I purchased a new ES 350 on 10/14 and it didn't have an XM radio installed. The dealer wants $850 to install one. Is there a place in Northern VA to get this done cheaper?

If you don't get a response on this forum maybe one of the regional forums can be of help to you. Looks like NELOC has members who are in your area. Go to Community above, forums, then scroll down to regional forums. Good luck.

If you're willing to tackle the install yourself, you could just order the XM unit itself from a Lexus vendor like lexus-parts.com; they're asking $299 for the hardware. In any case, yeah $850 is way too much to pay a dealer for an OEM XM install.

Here's the link to the XM part with install instructions. It goes into the trunk, so you don't have to pull the dash apart like you do for Sirius. Here's the part with install instructions:

I'm all for paying someone for labor if it saves time, but I'll bet it'll take less time for you to order the part and install it yourself than it would be to drop off and pick up the car from the dealer.

Agreed--if the dealer is willing to do the install for around $500, maybe $600 total (includes both the unit and labor); based on the install instructions for the XM unit, IMHO it shouldn't take a factory Lexus service tech more than a couple of hours tops to install the unit. I have no issue arguing against the "time is money" principle...but for me, my time for an XM install isn't worth $850...or even $700.

Agreed, I paid about $600 for a dealer install. You have to realize, the service department is not run by the sales department, so they have to make their profit too. So, I feel $600 is a fair price. But $800? Shop around.

Hi everyone, jusy my 2 cents. Live in Garden Grove, ca. had local Lexus dealer install XM for $547. Other note I requested that the XM antenna be mounted inside the car next to the third break light. Works very well, very clean install and I can't find the antenna wire in side the trunk any where. The install was that good.
