Default Navi owners please respond.

If I get navigation in my new ES is the cd changer in the glovebox or is it still in the dash? Also do you think navi is worth the extra money?
Thanks
I just picked up my ES 350 Saturday and was thrilled that my car has the backup camera as well.
I was surprised bacause the my package is a $41249 premium plus. When I checked this package on the Lexus web site it said nothing of a backup camera. This option only appeared on the UL package. Of course now Lexus has changed all the packages again but still no mention of backup camera except UL. Am I missing something or is this standard with the Nav? Other nav owners please respond.
Thanks, Bruce

the 6-cd changer is in-dash now, the got rid of the glove box disc magazines a few years ago. i believe the in-dash changer is standard whether you get nav or not. the only difference is you get a 6-DVD/cd changer if you get Mark Levinson.

and for information on whether nav is worth the money, here is a link to a similar discussion on the RX forum:

I've had my ES for about 6 weeks. This is my first car w/ Nav and I am already addicted. I will not buy another car w/o Nav and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is considering getting one.

The NAV is SOOOO worth it. The convenience and amount of information the NAV provides is fantastic. I'll never buy another car without it. Plus, the color display backup camera is more than a little helpful.

My car has the NAV with the standard audio package and it will play DVDs. You don't need the Mark Levinson for this.

WARNING!! I AM WRONG HERE!! YOU DO NEED THE ML PACKAGE TO PLAY DVDS. SORRY, I WAS MISREADING THE OWNERS MANUAL.

Really? Good to here that NAVI with standard audio package plays DVDs.
Because, I just signed up for ES Premium Plus Package with Navi Only(No ML),
Any other NAVI only users can confirm this?

I've got a question for you.

Let me say, when I purchased my former car, an '03 ES300, I was disappointed that I couldn't show DVD movies on the NAV screen unless I could hack into the wiring to make it do this. It seemed that to do this my warranty for the NAV system would be gone....from what the Lexus dealer told me......so I never did it. BTW: It was the Mark Levinson system.

Now I have the Mark Levinson system in my ES350 and I'm able to play DVD's onscreen, but I'm afraid to do this while my wife is shopping and I'm sitting in the car waiting for her return 'cause I'm afraid to wear down the car battery. hehe Actually, I keep 1 DVD in the changer to impress friends with this feature, but in actuality I'll probably never use it.

Really? The dealer sware to me that I needed to get the ML to play DVDs...

Nehow at least you need the ML to have DTS audio with your DVDS

Also I was skeptical about the nav when I first got the car, but now, I have to confess that its my favorite thing.

I thought the same thing. I really like the feature, but thought I'd never use it. I watched a half-an-hour video the other day for the first time while waiting for someone. It was great. I absolutely love listening to the sound of the DVD through the ML.

Default You do need ML to play DVDs

I hate passing on bad information! You DO need the Mark Levinson package to play DVDs. The owner's manual doesn't mention ML when talking about playing DVDs so I thought otherwise.

Just to make sure, though, I finally tried to play one on my standard NAV/audio package and no go.

Sorry for the misinformation.

That's what my salesman said as well. I guess there is something in the ML that will decode audio/video on the DVD and the standard stereo doesn't have that. I dont really mind anyway. We seldom go on road trips on this car anyway. I also have a portable dvd player that would serve its purpose well if we do ever need it.

I just got my 350ES with navigation and no Mark Levison and the dvd did NOT work. How did you get yours to work?

Hi hperel,
I did not get my es350 yet. I was replying back to dreyfus thread. He corrected that NAVI without ML will NOT play DVD.

I am waiting on mine for two weeks now. It is so hard to get ES350 with the color that we want.
Happy Indipendance day to all forum members!
