97 ES 300 Platinum Project
Hello All!
Well I am closer than ever to my dream of a 97 Platinum Series Lexus. You asked for an updated picture so here it is! The project has moved along and I just got the car back from the body shop. I had the rear bumper repainted so it's fresh and sharp like new plus the 2001 cleared tails.
This is what i have done so far.
1.2001 Chrome grill
2. Chrome Platinum wheels
3. Platinum badging
4. 2001 Tails
5. Tinted Windows
Who knows whats next!

that's not an older es. It spans from 97-01. I have a 2000 platinum, but i don't have chrome rims. Looking good. I'm about to take off my platinum rims and replace them with 18'' enkei's, and drop the car. I'll post pics up soon.

Looks GREAT matt!
Two questions:
Where did you get all the pieces? (Especially the platinum badges, i've never seen them for sale anywhere!)
And I'm curious as to how you installed your satellite radio, any pictures of that to see?

I got the platinum badges off ebay. Here is a pick of the Satellite Radio Install. I also got the 2001 Tails from
www.americanlexusparts.com. The 2001 tails cost me $600 but well worth it.

From the pic you can see the Satellite head unit. It was attached with Velcro so I wouldn't ruin the wood. I don't smoke and there is already a lighter power outlet in the center console so I have no need to open the ashtray. There is a satellite unit located in the trunk by the subwoofer and an antenna on the roof. The whole Sirius satellite rig cost me $300 installed. The install was done by Good Guys. I highly recommend them for your install. I wouldn't do it yourself. I have had Sirius for 9 months and love it. If you like techno, Sirius has 6 channels of it compared to 2 on XM.

About the sirius again...
Now, I'm guessing that since your radio is tuned to something in the 80's, that you are using an FM Modulator to get the satellite signal? How do you find the quality on that? I have a Sirius plug and play unit that I want to upgrade from (to a setup similar to yours) and the quality is good on the tape adapter, but i've heard mixed reviews on the FM modulation depending on city/suburb location and the type of car.

The quality from FM modulation is not the best. I live in Los Angeles and there are stations braodcasting on 88.3 but the kenwood fm modulator is SO STRONG that when the Sirius unit is on I can't receive ANY FM stations on the dial! I can't even receive AM stations either! So in answering your question, FM Modulation works great, you just won't have sound quality better than FM stereo.
