Default Airbag Light On - 1999 ES300

Hey guys, first time poster here, I like to hang out on the Toyota Nation forums usually. I have a '99 ES300 with 243k miles and I bought it with the airbag light on (constant, not blinking) when the car is running. Would appreciate some guidance, as I've never encountered this before on these cars. Carfax was clean, but I assume it's been in a minor hit and run or something, the front bumper cover is loose on the passenger side.

Thanks.

OK guys, I was removing the leaky passenger side headlight assembly and I think the car's been in a minor accident. HL assembly was cracked and holding water, side marker was held to fender with a screw, and bumper cover was not held to the fender. No damage otherwise to bumper cover or fender, but I'm wondering if it did something to the airbag impact sensor on that side. I know that impact sensors should be replaced with brand-new ones, but I'm willing to try a junkyard one...will try and make sure the car hasn't been in an obvious front-end collision lol. Have to go for the metal splash shield, driver's side front wheel liner, crank bolt, and a couple other things anyway.

I have an Actron CP9580A that didn't show any airbag codes, and it should because it works on my parents' '02 Sienna. I have a Techstream interface coming and I will see if that can't dig deeper.

Apologies for my very late reply, first time seeing this thread, But scanning it is definitely the best place to start with airbag work, but if you suspect the car has been in a collision and it wasn't repaired sufficiently, good chance there's still crash data stored on the airbag module itself. Hope this helps

TY, yeah, I'll post back once the TechStream stuff is in. My CP9580A didn't show anything

How about getting a free scan from auto zone for a code? Never tried their scanners but if it only cost time why not

I have better scanners than they do . I use a basic Bluetooth scanner with Torque Pro, a BlueDriver (bad idea, not worth the money...annoying to pair and doesn't do everything it says it does), and an Actron CP9580A (bought it to read airbag codes on late 90's-early '00's domestics and Japanese cars, works great)

...but still not as thorough as the Toyota TechStream.

OK, still working on getting a beater laptop for TechStream. In the meanwhile, does anybody know if there's a way to get the car to flash out SRS codes? I watched a couple of YouTube vids and tried shorting the pins on the OBD connector, but one of the pins seems to be missing (one vid was of an '03 Tundra, so I guess it's only newer Toyotas).

If the goal is just to get an airbag code thrown you code unplug any airbag of your choice, or unplug a seat belt, if getting codes thrown is your goal...

lol

I snooped around in an FSM and finally found a way to get it to blink out codes (and clear them as well). See attached.

It blinked out "54" but I also checked "45" just to be sure. Found descriptions here: http://www.diycardoctor.com/Download...ag%20Codes.txt

Lol, with everything else wrong with this car I'll check on the passenger airbag and side airbags last.
