ES300: the mother of all questions RIGHT HERE !!!!
Is the ES300 really just a more expensive version of the Camry??? What are your thoughts!!

Yes and no but IMO more of a "yes" than "no." we've discussed this many a time here....sometimes the argument doesn't get too far.
Being a more expensive camry doesn't downplay the ES necessarily, either.
A camry is not a bad car to start off with in the first place. AND....if you ride both, you can tell the differences. I'll just say that much.

thats a good answer. I mean we all know that the ES is technically a Toyota, as is in the same matter that an Acura is a Honda and an Infiniti is a Nissan. But, I do believe that the ES is much better then the Camry and is worth the extra doe. But, the Camry is a great car, no doubt about it. But the ES is DEFINTELY not "just" an overpriced Camry.....

so there you go, you answered your own question!!
....and to add, I'd buy an ES for its looks too. Questionable for the camry though (if my budget was for a camry, i might get something else).

really however, i don't see a similarity except very little with the body style.
the es has it's own identity. take off the badges and anyone will still be able to tell which is an es and which is a camery.
interior wise....TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
so....built on the same platform....ok.
other than that....ride in a camery and then in an es and anyone that think's the es is just an upgraded camry has some serious problems.

If you compare the 1996 Es300 with the same year Camry you will see major differences. I will point out just a few for you
1. The Es300 has no frames around the windows while the Camry has them.
2. Any Audio geek knows how hard it is to install wires running from the battery all the way to the trunk. All the thick padding you have to go through. While with the Camry you can run a wire without drilling a hole or taking out the back seat
3. Run your hands over the Es300 paint and then the Camrys paint and you will see what I am talking about.
4. The head lights are a major difference. Tinted lense with bulbs embedded inside the cylinders. For the mid-90s it was rare for a car to have stuff like this.
5. Anyone who has ever taken the lexus apart in many places, like the doors, dash board, fuse box, can see how much crafty work was put into making the ride more smoother.
If you put the Nissan Maxima side by side with an Infintiy I30 you will see many more similarities between them than you do with the Es300 and the Camry.

Whatever floats you boat. To each his own.
As they said above in a different light:
You shouldn't confuse a good product with a good product made superior.
At some point you grow up finding that yes "Some upgraded products that are in a higher class really should be there and they do compete very well".
So my ES 300 is a Carmy in mink clothing...
My question to anyone **** enough to bring it up is:
Who gives a F***, It's what I wanted, and that's all that matters. If I'd have wanted something differance I'd have spent my money on something different. Noone really has any right to question what I want, or what I bought.
FAI The fact that my Lexus is at heart a Toyota only makes the car better in my eye.
Notice that Lexus from 93-03 in Industry reports not only lead JD Power scores BY INSANE AMOUNTS (76 complaints per 100 new customers in 03, next closes is more than 20 ahead(Cadillac for anyone interested go caddy!) AND That they've been the most reliable brand for major/minor repairs every year since '93. (maybe before, but I never looked that up)
Some people don't like certain products/companies... Then again, once you get to looking, a good number of those people never "grow up" to realize they may not be the target audience :\
