Default 1998 ES 300 - Won't Start, Single Click

Hey all,

So I woke up to go to work today and found that my car wouldn't start. When turning the key I just hear a single click. All my lights and electronics seem to be working quite well, but I decided to go for a jump anyways. Still won't turn on. After reading other forums it sounds like it might be the the starter, what do y'all think?

Thanks,
Brian

Are your boost cables working? If they are working fine, then your starter is probably faulty.

Thanks for your reply, as an update I finally got my car to start after trying a ton more times. So its the starter. Any idea how much this should cost me or advice on how to fix it myself?

Use the end of a broom stick to hit the starter. and try starting it. It's better if you have a helper try to start the car while you're doing the hitting.

You can hit it relatively hard, but don't over do it.

you can see and reach the starter from the top of the engine.

Are you saying this could fix all my problems or it would be a temporary fix?

It's only temporary. Replacing your starter should be fairly easy for you.

You can get a re-manufacturered starter for about $100....1/2 hr labour.

In most cases of starter issue, it is just the worn out contacts. If you have the original Denso starter, find a place that can just change the starter contacts. I feel that is better than buying some unknown brand starter.
Here in Texas, got the contacts changed for $100 and been going great for 2+ years.
