Default Hard shifting at start-up

I have a 2000 ES300. Car was slow shifting and jerking into gear in the morning. The engine light was on. Knock Sensor and harness were replaced. First day after repair shifting was smooth. Next day it was back to hard shifting. After the car runs for a minute or so, the gears shift fine and the car runs like a champ until the car sits again for a significant amount of time. The same problem prevails. The engine light comes on for a day or so -- sometimes not even a day, then it goes off again. Right now it is off. I noticed this morning when starting the car, the fumes were a bit strong but later dissipated. Not sure if that has something to do with it. Prior to having the knock sensor replaced, had the transmission fluid changed. Any thoughts on what could be the problem? Thanks much

Did you install an OEN knock sensor?

what type of transmission fluid was used to refill the transmission?

Default Gears Shifting - Lexus ES300

Don't remember the code but prior to changing the transmission fluid and knock sensor, the code mapped back to knock sensor.

Just spoke with my mechanic. He did not use an OEM knock sensor and he used the Toyota transmission fluid from the dealer.

Many of the aftermarket knock sensors are not compatible with our cars, even when they say that they are. So if the same knock sensor code comes back, have your mechanic replace the aftermarket one for an OEM one

fo you know if they used ToyotA T-IV fluid or Dextrose?

Dextrose?? Isn't that some form of sugar?? Think you meant Dexron!

Not sure but i will ask my mechanic when he replaces the knock sensor. He ordered the OEM sensor. Which trans fluid should be used. Thanks.

Your 2000 es300, requires Toyota type T-IV transmission fluid. NOT Dexron
