2000 ES300 Engine, Trac Lt. on w int fuel loss power
After having fueled the car, the next day was noting that the Engine Light was On and the Trac off indicator was on. Took it to AZ to read engine code P0300 (Random Cylinder Misfire). My only symptom was that there was a fuel loss for several seconds at a rate of about within 10 seconds when rolling faster than 30 mph or so, the car IDLE WAS NORMAL without a miss. On the freeway at constant speed it seemed rhythmic in succession of the power loss intervals, but I didn't clock it. After each power loss the engine was totally back to normal each time. AZ gives the generic answer to replace the coils, wires, spark plugs, and have the engine tuned up. As I have seen posts around about the possibility of vacuum failures in sensors, manifold gasket issues, and even one on gas cap seal failure I checked the gas cap again and cranked it down harder with a few clicks. I restarted the engine and now no engine or trac off indicator. Resolved.
IT WAS ONLY A GAS CAP THAT WAS NOT CINCHED TIGHT ENOUGH.
I hope I save somebody a whole bunch of time and money. To me, that would gratifying.

So, after leaving the car parked for a few days the problem resurfaced, planning to follow up on this later. Engine now seems to be missing with slightly rough idle.
