Default 96 ES300 Master key without transponder?

Hi all, I bought a 1996 ES300 and it came with just one key. This key doesn't have a remote button on it, so it should be the service key. But it opens the boot, and locks the glove box.

This isn't right, is it? Is it actually a master key in disguise?

Remote button? Back then, Lexus keys were separate from the fob with the buttons. Is the key black or gray?

Sorry, some missing details...

I'm in Australia so things might be a bit different. Here, for 1996, there is a master key with a button on the side for the remote, a valet key with no button, and an emergency key for your wallet.

As I bought it, I have just the valet key, mine is black. BUT, it opens the trunk and glove box. Can this be right?

Maybe my locks are just worn out. It's a 20 year old car, after all LOL.

There can be a master key that does not have the transmitter in it. The factory part number for the Lexus key with transmitter is 89742-24070 your car will have to be programmed to accept it.

Thanks for that! I saw some on eBay last night, I'll see if it is that part number.

This forum is the best!

If you can post your VIN otherwise I can't be sure that is the correct part number.

Excellent. I'll grab two before they disappear.

I hope this works out for you those keys are not cheap. BTW I didn't see any reference to a transponder in the parts diagrams could be wrong but I couldn't find one.

Yeap, 96 had a remote key, sucka is expensive $450 at the dealer. My stepson decided to loose it so I went to the dealer and just got non-remote Master for $85 made couple of copies just in case he loses his mind again.
