Maintaining my lexus in good shape for many years
I have a 2002 es300 that I love. It wasn't always pampered, (i bought it used, and I lent it to my sister for a few years) but I'd now really like to pamper it and see if I can get another 10 or 15 years out of it.
It has 172,000 miles, I hear a slight rattle from the front right wheel that started a few weeks ago, it has this P0440 evap code I'm working on, it has some leather tears that I bought a leather repair kit for. It has yellowed out headlights that I plan to toothpaste clean, and a few other small problems that I can take care of myself. I just changed the engine air filter and cabin air filter. I got new tires, an oil change, brake inspection and new wipers.
I bought a timing belt/water pump kit on ebay, and the car is underperforming on MPG at just 19.
I have been changing the oil with conventional oil every 3,000 miles, and I had the serpentine belt changed.
I'd like a mechanic to give it a thorough inspection so that I can find and fix any problems that may be small now (before they become large) and do preventative maintenance.
I don't know where to start or how to do this without spending a lot of money,
How do I go about getting a thorough inspection and get some problems fixed and preventative maintenance done, not at a dealership and without spending a ton of money?
What problems should I be looking out for on a 14 year old es300 with 172k miles?
Also any other tips are very welcomed!
Thanks!

3000 miles is too often, you are wasting money. 5,000 miles is a perfectly good amount, some of the manufacturer s even cheap out and use 10k intervals and consider it safe. I wouldn't do 10k intervals but 5k is plenty frequent.
