1999 ES300 Down On Power Mystery
1999 ES300 175000 miles 1MZFE VVTI
I have noticed over the last six months or so that there is a big loss in power. There is no hesitation or roughness. There are no codes. No odd sounds or smells. It is just very noticeably slower. It is particularly noticeable when going up hill (we live on steep hill so I know very well how it used to perform compared to now). If I put my foot down hard, I can get it to down shift. The gears all work fine if I run through them manually.
I have checked for air leaks, cracked vacuum lines, cracked throttle body air tubes (both replaced about two years ago). The accelerator cable is adjusted correctly. I have cleaned the MAF sensor. The air cleaner is new. About two years ago I did the valve cover gaskets and there was no sign of sludge build up. I also put new spark plugs and fuel injectors in when I did the valve covers.
The only thing that I have not done is a compression test.
Any thoughts on what is causing this? Any other suggestions?

Check to see if you need an alignment.
I noticed a big improvement after getting mine done a while back.
Les schwab should do it for free, they do in my area, north California.
