Default Front Driver's Axle? Some help please

My buddy at Lexus checked my car out today all over and said i need to replace it. He recommended NOT to get the part through Lexus because it will be a few hundred even with his discount. Said to just go to Advanced Auto Parts or Auto Zone.

Anyone changed this part before? Where did you buy it? I've never done this on a car before and I believe this is the original one.

Yes, several times, Autozone offers a lifetime guarantee

Easy peasy.

Just make sure you order three JOINT Washers ( 1/4 moon shaped washers ) from Toyota. As the old ones will fall apart on you. You need these and regular washer will not work.

Thanks. So I guess nobody has gone the OEM route for this part? I wonder how much RockAuto and the other Lexus sites have it for

There is no such thing as OE for replacement axles, well not really. What a Lexus or Toyota dealer has is a remanufactured axle, nothing wrong with them but the price is not worth it. Get yourself a new axle from Empire or EMPI avoid Cardone if at all possible they are hit and miss.

Measure the old one with the new one. Make sure it is the same length.

Autzone gave me a wrong one. No biggy but had to do the job twice because I did not compare the lengths.

can you elaborate on the washers? Need to replace the passenger side axle on my mom's 99 Camry, I believe they are the same axles.

Also, I will check out the EMPI axles, thanks for info, any better brand?

Your car does not have the washers DRACO is talking about they are for the 2-piece axles which were used on the ES 1990-1996. As for better brands I cant say, EMPI has been good to me no problems yet. Cardone I've had to return several they are junk IMO.

EMPI axles division was sold and now has mixed quality reviews. Just went through this last year when needing axles for my friend's Subie OB. For a while there were a few higher quality EMPI axles in the pipeline but you could not guarantee which one you would get. By now you will most likely get the Empire USA and may be disappointed.

I've installed several EMPI axles since 2013 no issues, same with FEQ they seem to make a good axle. So what would you recommend instead?

Does Rock Auto offer lifetime warranty?

I wonder which brands the chain stores carry since they all seem to offer the warranty.

Would not consider anything except OEM remanufactured. Last thing I want is a vibration after busting my a$$ replacing a half-axle.
