sluggish acceleration 1999 es300
Here's there details. Car used to have a head gasket leak. Fixed both. Supposedly the spark plugs were changed as well during this because oil was leaking in. This all happened right as I bought the car. Anyways. I've timed several times and my 0-60 is always 11-12 seconds. It's very slow at the jump 0-20 or 40 range.
Online it says 0-60 should be around 7 to 8 seconds. I've changed the filter in the air box but I'm not sure where else to do stuff. I want the car performing how it's supposed to before I attempt to mod it. Anyone experience this? I don't want to pay 160 to get the diagnostic at Lexus.

Well, it could be many things.
How much stuff do you have in the car and trunk?
Did you do a compression test after the fix to insure block was not cracked?
Are both throttle cables properly set?
Any CEL? How many miles since repair?

Lighter the car faster she will go and as a bonus you save on gas.
I would ask the mechanic if they have compression results or do it yourself, it is not too difficult to do.
There is a cable to the transmission and one to the throttle body. Get a Haynes manual and check both to insure they are in their proper settings.
I found my step-son's cables were way off. I reset them, it shifts like new and immediate response on the gas pedal. Yes, very quick now, to my dismay :-(

Well, that makes things easier, OP, check the throttle cable.
Have a helper, press the gas pedal all the way down. If you can pull the throttle further. adjust until there is very little slack. You need some slack, maybe 0.5 MM. Don't go crazy and have 0 slack, that will cause other unwanted issues. Like idle blips when you did not intend to do so or worse throttle does not actuate the idle switch.
