Front passenger door won't open from outside (2es)
On my '96 the front passenger door outside handle won't open the door.
I understand this is a common issue but I can't seem to find any specific info in my searches.
My question is: Would it normally be the door handle itself that has failed, or a piece in the mechanism inside the door?
A functional, used door handle in my car's colour has just popped up for sale online so I want to grab it now, if that's what I am going to need.
Thanks

I had this same issue and replaced it a few months ago. You dont need a new door handle, there is a little yellow clip that goes onto a rod, that connects to the outside door handle (from inside the door) that gets broken.
This video walks though the general setup and its very similar on the 96. It is pretty simple to install the little piece once you remove the door handle and snap it back on. I had CRAZY trouble trying to get the damn little bolt on the key lock part together. Its not a difficult job but can be a tad frustrating in the limited space.
Make sure you have a magnetic extender wand to pick up the dropped bolts and a 1/4inch drive ratchet and extensions. Just go slow and dont get frustrated.
The part is called a handle rod clip and the drivers side door is #69293-12040.

Thanks!
Really appreciate that info, mooseboy. Sorry I took so long to reply and say thanks.
There is a DIY on this forum but unfortunately the photos are no longer available on the original hosting site, and the accompanying text isn't totally explanatory without the pics.
The board owners should look at saving pics in DIY postings onto their own server. Other car forums I am on now do that, so that valuable DIY info isn't lost.
Thanks again.
