Default HELP - Check Engine and Trac Off lights came on today

I went through a drive thru car wash, left and was driving up a steep freeway overpass when it burped a few small times while shifting. About 10 seconds later the Check Engine light and Trac Off light come on so I take an exit and when i slow down in the parking lot the car is shaking a little bit all around, including under the hood. I put it in park and it's shaking nasty. Turn her off for about 10 minutes, starts up fine and wasnt shaking anymore. Drove back home and it seemed normal but with the 2 lights still on.

Any ideas? Im going to try and take it to the dealership this week or ask my mechanic friend if he can hook it up that computer thing to see whats up. ****!!

Just go to any autostore (autozone, advance auto etc and get a free scan so you know what code to look for. Those auto shops are open now. Just go there. And also once you know the code and find out its not serious ( prolly a sensor- knock or O2 sensor) then tell him to delete the code if he can and drive around and see if the light comes back.

Weird. It turned off when i drove to Advanced auto parts yesterday. But the lights came back on this morning on the way to work and it immediatly started driving nasty. I'll see if they're on when i get off.

Edit - The check engine light was flashing this morning when i would come to complete stops at red lights. Thats when the car shook bad.

I would check for codes anyways.
There could be pending codes.

Check your voltage, your battery or alternator could be going out. Once the voltage drops to a certain level, the computer gets wiggy and all sorts of havoc occurs..

Assuming you have a year 99 or newer.
It's the oil control valve.
Around $60 and easy to replace your self

Sounds like you need a new OIL Control Valve, like the one mentioned in this thread.
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/15...got-today.html

I would just change both, bank 2 and 1 while I was at it, sounds like there is some kind of filter as well.

If the code only comes up for bank 2, then definitely replace that one first.

Bank2 is the one closest to the firewall, Bank1 is closest to the front of the car.

I understand that there are different part#s for both sides, so order the correct one if you are only replacing one.

If it were me I'd replace them both just to save myself the trouble of doing this again.

Wrong! You have this reversed. Bank 2 is the one closest to the front of the engine.

It may also be known as a "screen".

Ahh ok, good catch, the video I watched had the wrong info, now that you mention it, the thread shows bank 2 close to the front valve cover.

Still can't find where the filter goes and what it looks like though.
